Other varmints eat it, needs to be put in covered feeder, molds if it gets wet, pellets work best.
It takes a long time to grow an old friend.

I pour mine out on the ground, it gets a crust on it but they will continue eating what is powder, covered are would be best but not enough of a reason not to put it out. 18$ a bag. I put out about 15-20 lbs per place, and its always gone when I get back a week later.

i get mine at co-op, i wanna say they got diffrent flavors.I use regular. Like above 15-20 lbs per spot in a pile with corn around it, on the ground. I put 50lbs of it and 100lbs of corn the first time and it did get a little moldy. But i cut back and worked good. They tore it up. You could see were they paw'd up the area, trying to get it.

I'm still not sold on this making enough of a difference, for it to be worth all the extra money. I mean, how much money do ya'll spend a year on this stuff. I've had biologist tell me, its not worth it, that you would have to feed in large quantities, year round to make any difference. I'll stick with fertilizer and high protein foods in the spring and summer. Definitely not a herd health builder. You are doing it right by staying with what you're doing. It basically serves the same purpose as corn on the ground. Great for attracting deer for camera survey. One good thing for us is that hogs don't bother it like they will corn. They still get in it a bit, but won't eat 50lbs in a night. Once the deer get on it, they will eat a bag/night at certain locations.
Ya'll are just overthinking it now

Rice bran to deer is like crack cocaine to a junkie. Deer will walk past corn to eat it, and yes it is very good for them too. It's high in protein and crude fat. Like previously posted, it's best in a covered trough like feeder. I've used it for years and have never had a problem with other critters messing with it. In my experience, it will attract and hold bucks in the area. I also like the fact that it is reasonably cheap and last a bit longer than corn. Just my .02

I tried it a few years back. I filled half of the trough with rice bran and half with corn. A few days later all the corn was gone and they had barely touched the rice bran. I filled the empty side back up with corn and had the same result. Now maybe the deer just needed to get use to the bran. I don't know but I do know they love the corn.
