I was just wondering, how many of you that go to church can remember what the sermon was about four or five days after you heard it?

If you claim to be a Christian then why do you act like the devil? You will be known by the fruit you bear!

I can usually remember the high points after 4-5 days. Our preacher usually preaches in small series's, so all the information comes together over several weeks.

Typically I can especially if I take notes. But there are times that I don't.

Honestly, Sunday I struggled to stay awake, my 1 year old kept us up the night before. I can tell you what I studied this morning though. If all my Biblical knowledge was what is taught on Sundays I'd be in trouble. I think Sunday should be a minor part in a Christian's study time. I start every day with fellowship with The Lord. Sunday is just an addition. It's important to go to church on Sunday, but we should fellowship with The Lord every day.

It will take both outside study and a minister who is preaching something that is revelation to him for anyone to receive very much from a sermon.

Having said that, all of God's words are seed that will grow in a heart that is ready to receive and it will grow if we tend the seed to allow a harvest. Take a look at Mark chapter 4.

I may have missed BassCat's point, but the question seems to assume that being able to remember the sermon several days later is the whole point or at least the main point of attending worship services.

The reason to attend worship services is to (surprise!) worship God.

And in Romans 10:17 St. Paul says "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ."

So sermon note-takers, relax and put away your notebooks, you don't need 'em!

After all, I can't remember anything that I ate in April or May of this year, but without having eaten anything for two months, I surely would have starved to death...

Our pastor typically preaches on a topical or 10-12 week theme. So I can remember finer details IF I follow up on my own that week studying on his sermon points or rhetorical questions.

Sometimes I do, if led to dive deeper. Sometimes I don't and continue with my own personal study that week.

Colt, good post. An all day everyday relationship with Christ is most important. I agree, Sunday gatherings are for collective worship of our God, Jehovah.

Thanks Boog, but in the interest of full disclosure, I have to admit last Sunday morning I was out shooting skeet with my heathen friends!
