Looking to buy around 50lbs of fresh gulf shrimp. Anyone have any suggestions on best place and best price?

I bet straight off the boat in Bayou La Batre or some place. You're close enough and buying enough, it would be worth the drive.

Head down to Bayou La Batre...can't get much fresher than straight from the boats. Most are wholesalers only, but you should be able to find someone that would sell to you.

If you are boiling, I found there to be little difference in fresh vs. flash frozen. Call Jubilee seafood. They have any size you need, from 24-30 to 40+ count. Bought 150 lbs last year and was very pleased.

Just go to here and order some. Shipped to you on dry ice. Hard to beat this unless you get right off the boat. Just noticed where you live. Dang if I lived that close I would have me a connection. You shouldn't have any problem.

Check Shirley's on the causeway . It's just a bait shop but they bring in a bunch of fresh shrimp all the time right now. During the cooler months the white shrimp move in and that's the ones you want. Not a finer shrimp out there IMO . Good thing about them is they have to sell them at bait prices. I bought 5lb the other day and it was $20. Hard to beat that. Btw you live to close to the water to order frozen shrimp. All else fails around mobile just head to joe patties in Pcola

I bought a bunch to bring home last year at:

Aquila Seafood Inc
17309 River Rd,
Bon Secour, AL 36511
(251) 949-6658

Very pleased and the cost was $5.99 a lb for Royal Reds and everywhere else was more.

Aquila's is where I have bought from in the past and they were priced good and tasted better than good.

go down highway 188 into Bayou La Batre turn at light before draw bridge this is River Rd go about 1/2 mile cross a little bridge and then take an immediate left, go about 200yards or so look for walk in coolers on left in the middle of all the shrimp boats.the shrimpers have a sort of co-op here they charge a little more than they can get from the processors but less than you will pay from dealers.all shrimp are fresh off boat never frozen and after shrimping myself for 10 years I can't stand the taste of IQF shrimp. that chemical they put on them is nasty.I don"t think most people realize what a good fresh shrimp even taste like.

one other thing most people don't know is most of the "so called" fresh shrimp at these seafood markets are just thawed out IQF shrimp.
