Do you use a drag behind your disk to level your plot? I've been using a 6' wood post attached with 3' of chain. It's getting the job done but I'm always looking for a better way. I'm a fist time tractor owner so I'd love to hear what you use. Thanks

Yep. I have a 8.5 ft. Taylor Way hydraulic disk with a 10 ft. piece of 8 inch 1/4 wall pipe capped with 50 lbs. of sandblasting media inside for a drag. It's attached with 3+ ft. of heavy chain and is easily removed or hung in an elevated position to work without it dragging.

We use a big section of mesh to sort media in a soil screening plant. Its 4'x8'. We pull it behind a ranger before putting out seed thats small before cultipacking or if we are putting out bigger seed (peas/beans) we spread seed after discing the drag and cultipack. If you dont have or use a cultipack.....GET ONE!!!

Give me bout 15 more minutes, I was dreamin about beavers..........

We use a section harrow to smooth and cover our seeds.

I have a 5 1/2 ft disc , that I added a piece of 3x3 heavy angle iron to each side of the frame , extending out about 1 foot past the back disc axle. I then took a 6' piece of 4" steel pipe , filled with 80lb bag of sack create. Attached with 3 1/2 of chain on each side. This will allow the disc to be Raised up and the drag not entangle with the rear disc axle. When you dont need the drag , it can be laid across the top of the frame wedged between the angle iron and Gang adjustment handle. This also adds weight to the disc, helping the disc to cut better.

i get the ground ready with a cutting harrow , sow the seed then turn them under with a old pull behind harrow with smooth disc. cutting harrows don't work well turning in seed . a harrow with cutting disc on front and smooth disc on back works well .

A cultipacker is a food plotters friend. Makes a huge difference over plots that are not culitpacked.
