To kill a deer with my 30/30 using just iron sights. Been having my marlin for about 20 yrs and never killed a deer with it. This season I'm gonna hunt with it until I kill a deer with it. Any of you guys ever set a goal of some sort like this?

yes , i reworked a old S&W 916T shot gun just to kill my first deer with a slug a few years back . i killed one deer with it and and aint shot it since . i wore it out years ago shooting buck shot with it . lol

i've killed a tractor trailer load of deer with a marlin with over and under scope mounts back in the day . a 30-30 and a 270 are my favorite guns though i shot a 7mag these days

Similar situation. My dad bought me a 30-30 when I was 13. I killed my first deer with it. My son at 8 years old killed his first deer with it as well. This year is my daughters time to carry on the tradition with that ole thurdy thurdy!

I have a Browning Auto 5, made in Belgium, 12ga with ribbed 30" Full choke that my grandad gave me. I take it out to shoot one turkey with every few years, then it goes back in the safe.

I also have my dad's Marlin 30/30 that my mom gave him. I've never tried to shoot a deer with it, so it could be a future goal.

The very first deer I killed was with a Sears and Roebuck 30-30 my grandad gave me....ended up killing three deer with it before my dad got me a 7-08... Still have both guns....

My dad has an awesome lever action marlin 30-30. I hope one day he will pass it down to me and I can set a goal like y'all have.

I set and accomplished that goal 2 seasons ago. My first rifle killed deer was with a Winchester 30-30. It was scoped. I sold it a year after I killed the deer and bought a Ruger 7mag.

I ended up buying a Marlin 30-30 a couple summers ago and it didn't and still doesn't have a scope on it. I took it out and killed a doe at 75 yards with the open sights. DRT. That's the first and only deer I've ever killed with iron sights.

I killed my first deer with my Grand Dad's Marlin 30 30. The rifle was passed down to me when he passed a few years ago. I just might make it goal to kill another one with that rifle this year.

the barrel that came with my 916T was a 30" full choke . i got on open bore 21" barrel with iron sights off ebay . it patterns pretty good out to 75yrds . i get about 3" groups . i also picked up a 28" mod barrel for it off ebay .

so you know S&W had a recall on those barrels (30") so you might want to check that out .

My goal about 15 years ago was to get one with a old 45 long colt that my mom kept under her pillow
