Seems to be a lot of shows on about Alaska the past couple of years. I just watched one on the animal planet channel called railroad Alaska. Pretty good show about a snow plow locomotive and how crucial it is to get the tracks cleared after a big storm.

I really want to visit that state one day. My wife has been and she said it was absolutely beautiful. I know a bunch of y'all have been and a few on aldeer are hunting guides there.

How many have been or want to go some day like me and for those that have what was it like from an outdoorsman perspective.

I have been three times, and loved it.

I would love to be able to spend the summer and fall there, but not sure I could take the long dark cold days of winter.

When my now wife and I were in school, she had the opportunity to go to Alaska and teach for 3 years and get her tuition paid for. At the time, being young and stupid, 3 years seemed like such a long time. I sure wish that was one decision that we could have a "do over" on.

When I went we were doing mission work, and the superintendent of a school district put us up for a night. His district served two hundred students in seven communities spread over about 61,000 square miles.

From what he said teachers willing to live in the bush were always needed, and paid fairly well. The problem was that very few people could handle being in a village that is only accessible from air or boat, and the winter.

I would love to shoot a caribou, catch some salmon and halibut. Then go to the Rocky mountains and kill a elk.

Halibut! That's what I want to go fishing for! That's some fine eating fish. Wish we could get it in the stores down here more often.

Everywhere you turn is picture worthy scenery and that is no exaggeration. Even downtown Juneau is surrounded by mountains on three sides with water running down them in the summer. The fourth side is the bay.

Wildlife is abundant in both the sea and on the land.

You should see it if at all possible.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

It's a blast fishing for them. When my dad would visit me in Kodiak, we would see who could land the biggest one jigging for them with our flipping stix... Good times!

The film crew for the weather channel left here last month and headed back to Kodiak to film for more episodes... On a side note, I was on there last week playing dodge ball at a morale day grin

Never been, but it has always been my #1 place that I would like to go someday. Age and health are now working against me, so it's probably going to remain a dream.

When you get to Anchorage stop by Humpy's for lunch and have a halibut sandwich. Man that is the best fish sandwich on earth.

I have enjoyed all my trips there.

For those wanting to go hunting, don't wait until your too old to do it. Even the easy hunting there is physically demanding. Most of the hunters I get at my hunting business there think they are physically ready, most are not. Being mentally prepared for what you my have to deal with is also tough on some guys.

For those wanting to go fishing, I just happen to know a guy that owns a fishing lodge there. wink

Yoohoo, my wife and I are going in to weeks.

We have halibut trip planned in Ketchikan while there.

We're so ready to go kidless for 10 day excursion!
