Going to stay a couple nights in Guntersville this weekend. Just looking for some ideas of things to do while there or close surrounding area. Thanks in advance.

I hear tell of a lake up that way. You could always go watch them spray it.

They are having a shrimpfest and BBQ at the State Park on Saturday.

Go cruise thru the state park about a hour before dark with a loaf of bread... the deer will walk up to ya to eat the bread.
We saw at least 40 last time me and the GF went. with 2 of them being pretty nice bucks.

VERY good advice

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Somewhere on the Lake is a good place to hang out and have a drink if you're into that. If you're looking for an afternoon drive head up the mountain to Union Grove, hang a right by the church, drop off into Parches Cove and see God's country.

Wife and I regularly ride bicycles or walk the lakeside bike/walking trail. The museum (in the old national Guard Armory) has a great history of the area from way back with Indian artifacts and a history of the area. Usually have other displays as well. Last time we were there was a duck taxidermy display that was very impressive. Guntersville Lodge at the State park is also with a walk through and the restaurant is very good.

Somewhere on the Lake is having a benefit for Corey Garmon this Friday. It should be a great time for a great cause.

Yes, do eat at Top O' the River.
There are a few pretty good anitque stores in downtown if you are interested.

Fants is a cool store downtown, cruise the state park, then go eat a steak at Buck's Pocket Steak House up in Section!

I live up here so I can assure you.Eat at T.O.R stay the hell away from Wintzels.State park has a great breakfast and hard to believe but Marshall south hospital has a great breakfast in Boaz.Take a Pringles can with crushed crackers in it and when you shake the can out the window at the state park the deer will come running. We have a mexican restaurant in Albertville called King Pollo that is the best mexican food you will ever eat.Fish off of the pier across from D.Q at night with top water lures.Bass hang around there after tournament weigh-ins.Real nice tactical shop at the top of the mountain on the right just past the fire station.Stay away from queer pier at night just past the piggly wiggly and don't be caught after dark up on "THE HILL" in downtown Guntersville. You might not get lucky enough to see the sun come up.

Dustin called ahead and advised them of your habit for supposedly going bass fishing but actually having sex with flathead catfish while their head was caught in a 2" gill net. Them folks is partial to flatheads and don't appreciate your type.

You can't tell me you even think their food is even remotely good. I took the wife and daughter about a month ago and it was just plain nasty. Not to mention I paid over $80.00 for 3 people.I won't ever go back. It was real good back when it was Crawdaddys, but he got caught doing exactly what you described me doing. rofl

I don't imagine he wants to spend his weekend in Guntersville locked up in the county jail. Unless you know someone, a trip to Couch's Landing could end up in an expensive ticket or sleeping on a cot for the night.

I live here, but if I moved away and came back I would do the following:

Eats

Top O The River
Rock House Eatery
Sunset Grill
Bruce's

To-Do

State Park
High Falls
Guntersville Dam
FISH

Shopping

I wouldn't waste my time unless I went to Fant's for a few.

And this weekend:

I would go to Corey Garmon's fundraiser at Somewhere on the Lake
I would go to the Shrimpfest

Understood. I just can't make political affiliation get in the way of good fried chicken, beef tips, and peanut butter pudding. smile

Me elaborate? I don't really know who owns Bruce's, I just go there to eat.

It used to be owned by Bruce Walker who passed away a few years ago. I went to school with his son, Randy, who is a democrat, albeit, a white one and he runs the place now..

Papa Dubis aint' half bad either. If you like fried oysters, theirs are the best I've had, north of the gulf. Their cajun rice is awesome too.
