I had some beaver in my pond and they girdled every large tree around it. I didn't notice until hunting season a few years ago. They haven't died yet. They cut a large band around each one. I guess they eat the bark? These trees are way too big for them to fool with. They cut a lot of little ones and drug them off. 2 1/2 acre pond and it rained so much a few years back, in the winter, that the dam broke, from them building it up. Varmints.

I'm not a lawyer, but if a big storm comes through and blows that tree on your neighbor, it is considered an act of God. The person whose property the tree was on is not liable. If you poison the tree, or kill it in some manner and it falls on the neighbor's home, get your wallet open.

Finding a good tree cutter is hard to do and as mentioned above, if jwalker is close enough have him to remove it for you. I had 4 trees just cut down and left that were leaning towards a neighbors garage. I did not want a tree falling on his garage out of respect for him and our friendship. It was 700.00 four years ago. They just cut the trees down and had them to fall on me. I had to clean up all the mess and saw up all the logs to burn them. I was happy with the 700.00 bill.

I have a 395 with a 28” bar whenever you need it. I’m sure you can wedge it and get it to fall in a good spot.

If you dont know the hazard exists, you are not liable. If your neighbor sends you a certified letter making you aware of the hazard or in this case, if you get on the internet and tell all humanity you killed the tree so it will fall on your neighbors house, you are liable. If its an act of nature and you are unaware of the hazard, ypu would not be responsible, it would fall on the neighbors home owners insurance.

True. A lady's house here in Huntsville had significant damage from her neighbors large oak tree that fell onto her roof during a recent storm. She has no homeowner's insurance to cover the damage. A volunteer group came and removed the tree at no charge to her.

Pretty sure this is correct! If you have a leaning tree and the neighbor identifies it as a hazard to his property formally to you and you don't do anything and it is blown over by act of god and damages his property you are liable.
