Just wondered if any of you folks do trail runs, marathons etc. My son is running a trail run in Huntsville Saturday. It’s a 50K, The Dizzy Fifties. We’re planning on going up and give him a little support. https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=96429

That’s a long way I used to run a lot but kept it under 15k on races…good luck to him

I consider myself a runner. Nothing like that, though. Ultras are another level. I normally go 15-22 miles a week, depending. There’s some weeks I don’t drive that distance much less run it. Good for you!!

If you see me running you should run too, there's a bear coming. I've always said, if you see me running? There's either something bad behind me or, something good in the direction I'm going. Either way, you should probably follow me.

Yes. I'm limiting myself to short distances though. Half marathon is about as far as I will go. I feel like there is a diminishing return beyond that distance.
I'm in training mode for the Mercedes Half here in Bham. Been averaging about 30 miles a week for the last month or so. As of today, I'm at 18 miles. I'll add 6 on Friday and another 6 on Sat. Local 5k this Sat so that'll be fun. Bear in mind that 80% of all my training miles are at a heart rate range of 135-145. That's the zone where my body uses fat to provide energy. Once I made that change, the pounds melted right off. I'm down to my target weight, lost 2" of my waist, and I'm below 15% body fat. Best shape of my life at almost 50 yrs old.
My dad had his first heart attack at 31. He died from congestive heart failure. I took care of him 5 days a week for the last 6 months or so of his life. I made myself a promise to never end up like that. Heart health is priority number one for me.
ETA: I see that's a Huntsville Track Club event. I'm in the Bham track Club here. Great group for anyone in the area that wants to start running or go to the next level with it.

I still run for exercise..but i did run OCR(obstacle course race)..i ran the barbarian 4 years twice competitively..ive ran the panther several more..once competitively and did very well..ive ran some some mud runs and 5ks. Im not in that kinda shape anymore..but im plannin in tryin it again..to complete the circuit i still need a bone frog and a spartan. They are alot of fun..but some of them..especially the competitive heats where you cant skip obstacles..they are dangerous…they are very fun and competitive. My wife has one some..shes very fit and used to chase those things..we dont do that no mo🤠🇺🇸

I run, but 10k is about all I do. My son ran a half marathon a couple weeks ago. My daughter has entered three 100 mile ultras but has failed to finish. My wife and I and my three kids are all running a 10k in a couple weeks.
I've been running a lot with a 40lb weight vest. My speed has increased quite a bit.

My son lives in Birmingham for the time being. He ran the full marathon last winter. He’s been training all year for the 50 mile run in Chattanooga December 19th. https://wildtrails.org/events-fundraisers/wild-trails-race-series/lookout-mountain-50-miler/I talked to him the other night and I told him he sounded tired. He told me the had ran 25 miles and then put in his shift at Childrens doing his Physical Therapy gig…..I said no wonder you sound tired. I’m like some of the other guys, if you see me running you better leave too….lol.
