Big boy I’ve always heard that place is full of them. I’ve done a good bit of hiking up there but never seen one.

Me, wife and kid saw one that made that one look like a teenager. I ran it over a few times and it took off into the grown up ditch. I left him alone and felt bad about it. I ran him over a few times thinking I could kill it and toss it in the trunk. He was on an old road off Hobbs Island Rd close to the speedway. I took pictures on my flip phone but don't have them anymore. I should have went into the woods down the road and found a stick and beat it to death. I wanted his hide real bad. I had just gotten off work at Saint Gobain. Showered at work. Had flip flops and shorts on and it was about 730pm getting dark. No flashlight. No gun. Nothing. I didn't think long enough before acting. My adrenaline was running when I got out of the car to take pictures. I read where they can strike 1/3 of their length or more. I blew that situation. Not many people can believe they get over 6ft. This snake was way longer than me and I'm 6ft 2in. ran over a diamond back like that in the road one day. Though I had hit a big limb. Didn’t even phase him. No way I was following it in the high grass big as that damn thing was 😳

The longest recorded timber rattler is 6' 2.5".

We're in Timber Rattler central up here , I've never seen or know anyone else around here that has seen a legit, measured 6 footer. I killed one about 12 years ago that was 66 inches with the head cut off. Several folks that have killed some biguns , saw it and said it was the longest they ever saw. He would have still been a little short of 6' head and all.

I’d say 5 to 5 1/2 ft maybe. I’ve seen two bigger in person down this way
