The smell of a fat litered and oak fire.
The smell of coffee from a percolator coffee pot
The smell of bacon frying.
And oddly enough, the smell of a meat market. Dad worked in the meat department at a grocery store for almost 49 years. Always loved that smell.

May the sound of hounds never die!

The sound of Cicadas, the smell of diesel fuel, first cool snap of the year, the smell of bread baking.

The smell of Jasmine in the summertime! I even planted it here just to keep me in the mood. Nothing better. Takes me back to a simple time that will never be lived again.

What about the smell of a hot motor covered in mud that is now part of a huge mudhole? Burning rubber on asphalt. Vicks Vapor Rub in the winter when we had a chest cold! Some things will never be forgotten.

You have to be 45+ years old to get some of these.

The splash and sound of a bass hitting a Jitterbug or Hula Popper right outside the cattails in a farm pond

Bullfrogs, crickets, whippoorwills and katydids on a summer night.

The sound of an old chicken truck going through the gears late at night. Used to be that you could hear them for several miles on sand mountain in the middle of the night.

Kids actually playing outdoors. ie. backyard football or baseball.

Dirtbikes, bicycles, go-carts, and mini-bikes. I saw an old Banana seat bicycle with a sissy bar and extended forks this weekend and felt like I was 10yo again.

Sound of a pressure cooker and smell of pintos and fresh cooked cornbread.

Canvas tents

Waves lapping against an aluminum boat midday or the fog on the water at daylight.

Smell of freshly mimeographed test papers as the teacher handed them out.

A wind up watch that had an actual face.

70's something haircuts. (See 3bailey3's post above)

VHS, Betamax, or videodisks, 8 tracks, cassettes, and AM radio, walkman, transistor radios, the terms 33-1/3 or 45 rpm referring to vinyl records.

The crack of a wooden bat. (Yes, we used them in little league wat back when.)

The sound and feel when a wooden bat cracks (breaks)

Cigarette smoke in a restaurant, a closed up car, or most any public place.

Grandma's kitchen

Eating a can of spam or vienees or potted meat with a sleeve of crackers.
Catching anything on a cane pole.
Eating a yellow meated watermelon after it cooled off in the spring house.
Picking up an apple from under the tree and cutting up with the pocket knife Papa gave you.

Back when mama would buy the jeans a size or two larger and longer. Hoping they would last as you grew. Boys grow fast at that age...lol

Dad frying bacon or spam and eggs. Just camping on the coast and fishing. Or at lake Eufaula and hoping we would catch enough to eat that night ( At the old White Oak campground on Eufaula ). I was about 12 when we we went down to Choctawhatchee Bay in Florida. Got skunked and we went to a grocery store to buy some redfish. It was mighty tasty and he cautioned me to not tell anyone, that we had to buy fish the first night...lol Those smells are good times.

MM glad you mentioned my haircut, just as kids were letting their hair grow long in the 70's my Grandfather was a ole country barber and the only way he ever cut a kids hair was shaved, I Rember the last time he cut my hair i cried for a week! but i miss him like crazy now that my family is selling off his land... I would shave my head every week to be able to save his place..
