I'm not sure why this thought keeps going through my head the last few days but been thinking about lots of stuff from my youth. I can still hear the screen door on our back porch from the house I lived in as a kid. Every time I hear a train, it reminds me of sleeping with our windows open and hearing the train through the woods, several miles away. Some of my favorite smells that take me back to my childhood are saw dust from a fresh cut oak tree, pipe tobacco, burning leaves, and a two stroke outboard. Simplicity at its finest.

I will hear a song on the radio from childhood and think of the good old days

Seeing a stalk of ginseng when I’m scouting
My dad had me and my brother in the woods digging when we could barely walk through the woods
I dug up a bunch of buckeye bushes and some poison oak before I learned….good memories !!

The smell of shotgun hulls and green peas.

Basket of crickets and an ice cold Pepsi in a can, riding on the bench seat of my 77 F150 with the quarter windows open, the smell of burning rubber and race fuel, lots of good memories.

Not positive, Miller Lite beer cans.

Smell of a wood stove,, fresh cut hay fields and tobacco in case.

Fresh cut grass, the smell of a shotgun shell hull. It is amazing how certain smells bring back both good and bad memories.

The smell of a freshly fired shotgun shell, the sound of a screen door slamming, the taste of chicken fried in Criscoe from the can, and the smell of a coca-cola can that was kept in a cooler with fresh caught bream. Just wipe the slime off the can and clean the top with a shirt tail and drink away.

This here I still smell hay fields all the time but that wood burner smell brings back some memories...I was fortunate to have an awesome childhood....wasn't perfect but I can't complain one bit

I wish I knew then what I know now.

First puff of diesel exhaust from a cranked tractor, freshly tilled dirt, ginning season smells, chemical smell of a crop duster air strip, the weird plastic smell of pool toys/floats/equipment (goggles, snorkels, blow ups, etc).

that screen door sound takes me back. Had one on the front and back door. Both had a squeaky spring.
The other day, I took my wife through my old neighborhood. I explained how certain sounds took me back to my childhood. We lived fairly close to a softball field and I could here a well hit ball a mile away (we only lived a couple hundred yards away). PING and then the crowd roaring. Also lived close to the high school and the summer was filled with the sounds of the marching band practicing. By this time of year, they was starting to sound pretty good and would make it through the whole song.
In a couple of months, the whole town will smell like peanuts. That one always takes me back too.

The smell of a hay. I spent many a day in a hay field with my dad growing up. I even learned to drive a stick at 8 years old with dad when he was cutting hay one year, burnt the clutch out of that old toyota in a day lol

Fields that just had the sorghum cut and the smell of it cooking off down the road. A flock of a gigazillion blackbirds that took 45 minutes to fly over. Smell of gun oil. Hoop cheese. The feel of that first cool crisp morning in September. Hot dogs and Coca Cola in a paper cup at a football game.

As stated earlier.
The sound of a screened porch door spring stretching as the door is opened and then just as you let go off it your grandma or mom yelling, “Don’t slam the screen BLAM! door.”

Joined a family for 4th of July dinner. The elderly Mom was talking about a place they stayed that had " air dried sheets". I found this comical, but cute.

Moth balls in the closet. Cokes in the bottle. Chips in a can after school. Only having three channels on TV. No cell phone. No computer. Real wicker chair on front porch. A biscuit bowl that was always loaded with flour. Never knew how she put buttermilk in it and the remainder wasn’t wet. Good times.

Bullseye Unique and 231 powder freshly used all different but lovely in smell. Hoppes#9 smell and the little "criktch" sound 4831 makes when you seat a bullet. Mama hollering us in for supper at Odark thirty. The sound of a baseball meeting the wood solid the buzzing in your hands. Good times long times.

smell of a wood fire in the winter, springtime strawberries in PawPaw's garden, summer flowers in Grandmother's flower beds, fall leaves, rabbit tobacco and the wood sawdust smell from dad's shop when he was building something .....man, what I'd give to go back for just a day or 3 and talk to those family who have gone on
