I wonder if this has been the wettest five year period (2018-2022) for a given spot in AL? Some rain gauges around here busting 400+ inches in that time frame and 5 months to go. Tropics get fired up and it’s gonna get nasty. Most I’ve seen in an extended period and then some. We don’t just get summer showers, it rains for hours on end like wintertime rain. Outside work for many businesses steadily way behind. That little dry spell we had in 2017 is a distant memory now. 400 inches? Those are some screwed up rain gauges.

Some places average close to 70/year. That would be pushing 350 over 5, and be normal. It’s not really a stretch considering the rain events that keep happening.

Turkey 247 and I are both in the timber business and work in the same area. I believe those numbers are pretty close. Some of my clients have tracts of timber that have been in the cutting budget for 3-4 years or longer and have no chance of being cut again this year. It’s almost impossible to plan more than 2-3 weeks ahead because one of these fronts can drop 3-6” of rain in an afternoon and put a tract out for weeks, if not longer.

^^^^ We hav been getting hammered for 5 years - I not far from u - the lightening hit so hard it knocked my ac out today - seems like every year a record In rain received occurs - I forget the numbers from the last several years but they were giving them out at church last year and it was mind blowing. Guaranteed u we got more rain this year - feels like the rain is gone come thru the ceiling when it comes which is frequent - huge down pores and weather shows rain for next 4-5 days - 3 day dry then more showers for 5-6 days I would rather rain than drought - but we been getting hammered for 5 years
Hunt the wind - leave it better than you found it - love your neighbor as you love your self We need prayer for our country now more than ever

I just googled it and I’ll tell you what, I never knew that rain gauges had a multiplying factor. I’ve never used one cause I’ve never had the need. I always figured they were 1/1.

I think I read that Birmingham had more rain last year than any other major metro in the country, more than Miami or NOLA, which was some sort of record.

I live in central Baldwin and in the month of July the only day that it didn't rain at the house was July 31. It stormed yesterday and so far in August we had 2 days without rain. And this is five years straight of it - above average every year. The five year cumulative total is getting off the chart.

Meanwhile in north bama we’d kill for some of that… You ain't wrong. Y'all do know he's talking about a 5 year total, right? Not 400" in one year. 80" a year, every year for 5 years would be hard to believe, but in NE AL, we got over 70" last year. 76" IIRC.

I live almost dead center of the part of map showing highest rain fall totals. It flooded yesterday once again at my house. Water standing everywhere in my field and yard.
