Friend gave me old sheet of lead he had, I melted it down and recovered 44 Lbs of pure soft lead , been wanting some soft lead to see what powder coating will do to it, my powder coated wheel wt lead will mushroom but will not break up,[Linked Image]

No sir , the ones I have recovered [not many] have only mushroom , using East Wood hot coat, when it cools off going to experiment shooting into different things just because I'm curious .

Just thinking out loud......Softer lead is going to flow (deform) more than wheel weights. Coating won't make a difference, whether its Alox, wax or coated. The coating may help you drive it faster without leading however and get more deformation due to speed.

I'm not sure about that. We used to mix lead soft up top hard in the rear of the bullet course we never used dead soft lead up front but softer lead for sure and pushed them pretty hard but still safe loads.

[Linked Image] These are a coated 30/30 - 44 mag and 9 mm, put them on vice and beat them with a hammer as you can see the coating does not break away or flake , this is why they only mushroom, I'm not saying these are good for hunting I just target practice with them and not have to worry about leading in my barrel.
