Just thinking out loud......Softer lead is going to flow (deform) more than wheel weights. Coating won't make a difference, whether its Alox, wax or coated. The coating may help you drive it faster without leading however and get more deformation due to speed.

I'm not sure about that. We used to mix lead soft up top hard in the rear of the bullet course we never used dead soft lead up front but softer lead for sure and pushed them pretty hard but still safe loads.
