I see a lot of people looking for these scopes. I know nothing about them so don’t blaze me but are they worth it. Generally speaking you get what you pay for and these are fairly inexpensive.

Reckon it’s fairly obvious I’m a fanboy. If you’re on 24hrCF there’s no doubt you’ve seen BigStick spewing the virtues of the 6X “fixed fuqqr”. I drank the Kool-Aid early and often. I’ve got a 16X and 20X I use for load development and a half dozen 6x42 Mil-Quads mounted on everything from lightweight bolt action 223’s to 15lb bench guns. The glass is equivalent to VX2 but the turrets are bulletproof. It’s actually humorous that a $300 glorified Tasco can be cranked on from one end of the erector to the other and perfectly return to zero time and time again. For folks that want better glass they’ve also got an HD series with variable magnification range. If I could change anything I’d cap the windage and add a factory zero stop. There are DIY solutions for both but I don’t bother.

The best index to a person’s character is (a) how he treats people who can’t do him any good, and (b) how he treats people who can’t fight back.

What’s the best swfa scope for hunting? The 3-15x42ss or the 3-15x42ss hd or the 3-9x42ss hd?

83% of all statistics are made up.

For a pure hunting scope, I believe the 3-9x42HD is the winner of the bunch. It’s got the HD glass, the bomb proof HD turrets, variable power, AND weighs significantly less than the other HD options.

How does the clarity and low light performance compare to a Leupold VX3i or VX5?

He said VX-2 equivalent up top.

I thought he was talking about the cheaper 6x42?

Everything I’ve read on rokslide and 24hrcampfire has been nothing but good. Formidilosus posts his evaluations of the scopes as well as others. I own the 3-15x42 mil quad and it’s been a good scope so far. Haven’t really stretched it out and dialed a lot but I’ve been happy with it.

Sorry about the delay…

The HD is gonna be much closer to VX5 glass quality and clarity. I’m sure you’ll agree that scopes are extremely subjective. Some people love some optics that others hate. One of my buddies swears my VX5/VX6 glass are no better than busted coke bottles. Everybody’s eyes see things different.

Both elk I’ve seen die, one by me and one by my hunting partner, died from a bullet steered by a SWFA 3-9x42. Simply fantastic scopes for the money, I regret selling the one I had all the time. IMO it’s the 2nd best light/mountain hunting scope made in any price range only behind the NF NXS 2.5-10x42.

I read on 24Hr that the Sightron plant in Japan make SWFA scopes.
