When i ordered my Talley scope mounts, i gave them the info on the gun and scope and bought the mounts they suggested. When i set the scope on the mounts, before tightening, the scope didnt touch the barrel. There was daylight there. After tightening the ring screws, the scope is just barely touching the barrel. I cannot slide a piece of paper between them. Is this gona be a big problem? After sighting the scope i may shoot this gun twice a year. The barrel will never get hot. Its a 6.5cm if that matters. The only thing i can figure is the gun i bought is a heavy barrel and Talley must have figured it for a smaller barrel. Nevertheless, here i am. Im leaning toward letting it ride unless one of yall have done this before and it broke something. I understand its not ideal but will it damage the scope?

Ummm yeah it's bad. And more importantly you'll probably end up wounding a lot of animals

I wouldn't shoot it touching the barrel unless it was a dire situation

It’s a 6.5 creedmore, it’s like shooting 00 buck out to half a mile. The scope really doesn’t matter that much.

Put ya a piece of paper under each ring and leter eat is the redneck fix

Get some taller rings

No problem on a 6.5. The breeze from the bullet on a miss alone kills em is what I'm told.

I’m not sure I’d let that ride. My dad had a 7 mag with a redfield on it back in the 80s that he had set up like that. He zeroed it and then missed a Muley that hunting season. Not a big buck but he was mad as a hornet. Shot a target at lunch time and it was way off. If I remember corrected it did something to the reticle.

Obviously a 6.5CM doesn’t have the same boom as a 7 mag and an old redfield isn’t up to the standards as today’s scopes but, you may be taking a chance.

Put a piece of an aluminum drink can under the scope in each ring as a shim and let it ride

Black electrical tape works good as a shim as well. Essentially what that does is messes with the harmonics of the barrel. It would be like resting your gun directly on the barrel and shooting versus using the stock or your hand. Sure there’s a chance it may not do anything but your chances of a Miss are increased

The barrel whip being transferred to the scope doesn't sound good. If the barrel was free floated, it no longer is. Shimming would probably be good enough for ranges us Bama folk shoot at.

Shim with aluminum foil, or piece of aluminum can, like Hevi said. On the bottom side, should be an easy fix.

They have a higher set of mounts. They suggested the medium mounts. Im gona get the higher mounts. If ive gotta redo it, im gona do it right.
