Yes I measured. Not an estimate. What's the biggest you have ever seen? From what I read, one got to 8ft in captivity but 6ft is about the extent in the wild and that is around 15 years old. I normally don't try to kill these but he was about 10 feet from my chicken coop (and I have been getting less eggs lately) and when i went to move him. He went into my shop like he lived there. He had to go.
What's the Alabama record in the wild?

I have moved over a hundred to another place when I catch them here. Chicken Snakes always get a pass, and the wife hates it. I just take them to the woods about a mile away and send them on their way. Poisonous snakes never get a pass.
I can't stand a thief.

My mom killed a copperhead over 6ft. But for rat snakes 7 is pretty common Your Mom is now famous!! :)i guess so, we even skinned it a kept it on a long board for a while, I was a kid, but she still talks about it being 6ft, i didn't measure it but can say for sure it was bigger than that 4ft world record.

My mom killed a copperhead over 6ft. But for rat snakes 7 is pretty common That’s not common at all. I’ve measured hundreds of rat snakes in several states and I’ve never once put a tape on one that was 7’. 6’8” is the longest I’ve seen. I can count on two hands the ones I’ve measured that hit a legit 6’. As for copperheads I’ve taped a 51” and two at 48”. They were from Yazoo , MS and Cherokee Co, AL. I’d have to see a 6’ to believe it lol.

Biggest copperhead I've seen was almost 4ft laying dead in dried up creek bed...it was a tad swollen but hadn't been dead long...

7’ is a full grown one - I’ve seen them, what I believe to be a touch over 6’ but never one near that size.

Fishermen ain’t got nothing on snake tales!

As far as ratsnakes Ive seen a few pushing that 7-8' range. Though I dont know if they were western/grey ratsnake hybrids or just western ratsnakes.

Do yall’s wives believe you when you say something is 10” too? 10" or 10cm? My wife doesn't understand the metric system, so I feel pretty good about myself when I tell her that I'm toting 10cm.
