I've been blessed with good eyes but need readers for everything close now. Getting hard to see the sights when shooting especially handguns. Anybody out there use reading glasses when shooting?

I started last year. Makes that front sight crisp and clear like it should be. I have shot with regular old el cheapo readers from Walmart as well as some 3m safety glasses from Lowes that have built in readers. I got the 3m for working in the shop and liked em so much that I used em when it came time for annual qualification at work. Worked like a champ.

I would recommend going to the eye doctor and get an eye examination. It is something We should all do annually regardless of how We thinks Our eyes are doing health wise IMO.

I do go to an eye doctor. They recommend reading glasses for anything close up.

I can still read a magazine at 40 yards but if I’m holding it, I can’t make out a word. I’ve used readers for about 5 years.

Clic’s are awesome

Used readers for a couple years on and off
There are days when I don’t need them and days when I do

Ditto on the clics. I would lose or break a pair of readers every week. The clics managed to hang around a couple years. Readers started for me at age 47.

Been using readers for bout 5 years , but not shooting . I can shoot with a scope fine but open sights, the rear sight gets blurry.

My problem with readers is the sights look great but the target is not in focus at all.

It's not going to get any better. Happens to us all usually around age 40. What works for me are Progressive Lenses. I do just fine with distance but it's my intermediate and close up that I have trouble with. Each couple of years it seems it get's a little harder and harder to see clearly as far as I did. I'm 52 and just had my yearly exam and an increase in prescription. This time around I decided to go with some light weight OVO frames with the Transition Extra Active Polarized lenses. I also opted for prescription Maui Jim's I'm loving them both but neither were cheap.

That's become a big issue for me in my old age. I have been wearing progressive lenses for years, and they work ok for most situations, but not for shooting a gun with iron sights. I use a scope on my rifles and added a fastfire to my turkey gun, but there just isn't a good solution for iron sights with a handgun. I have a bad astigmatism that contributes to the problem and makes me worse than folks who just have presbyopia. I can't tilt my head to the right spot to see those iron sights clearly enough for really accurate shooting.

I wanted to kill a deer with a Colt revolver and I found that with the right power drug store glasses I can see the sights in focus. Of course, I am all but blind at a distance wearing those things. I tried to solve it by removing the lens from the left side. Now I could see the target with the left eye and the sights with the right eye. Some people set up contacts this way, and some even have lasik surgery using the idea. It isn't ideal, but it's a cheap fix that works reasonably well.

I've shot at 2 deer with the gun and missed both. frown. Good luck with it

Think that called mono focus contacts. I have a friend got contacts like that . One for close up another for distance . Took him awhile get used to it . I just use cheap reading glasses . I lose couple pair a week. My prescription from dr for distance is the same as.75 reading glasses .don t need them unless driving at night . i keep them an .2 readers with me all time . I lost both pair from dr. I can t see open sights either an i was a great shot with open sights. Scope for me now.

I buy 10 packs off of amazon so I have them everywhere. Found out what prescription I needed from eye doc and went from there.

I missed a buck at 75 yards 6 times with the open sight 30-30 a couple of few years ago. The dummy just stood there laughing at me. I used to be deadly with it so I knew something had to change. Next time I took the readers and didn't miss. I had lasik a number of years ago and the Dr. told me it would speed up my need for readers and he was right. I had to start a few years after that and have gone up .25 in strength about every two years since. Right now at 2.50. To shoot with them requires glasses halfway down my nose and looking through them and then looking up to focus on the target. Not ideal but it works.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
