The wave height is secondary, the frequency is what will humble you if you don’t have sea legs.

On my 3rd trip out of South Daytona Capt.Frank told a new mate "Dave's perfect for you he doesn't drink or smoke and won't cuss you bad so suck it up buttercup and keep his hooks baited." Apparently ol'boy was from the pacific northwest granola types. I was tired hauling up fish but kept after it just to hear Capt.Frank "Squid on now! We're on'em keep moving!" Good times and yes I tipped Granola Boy $90.00.

Only hits count.

My cousin went with us several times before he ever got seasick and now he gets seasick almost every time. Usually after about an hour out. After the second trip of being sick, my BIL and I forced him to jump in (really threw him in) and it immediately got better. He still felt weak but was not puking and was able to fish. Now he jumps in after our first bait stop and usually does well unless it is real choppy.

I've been Seasick one time and had Altitude sickness one time. Both are horrible but definitely different. Seasickness is worse though in my opinion.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Timber there is no telling what you will run into at Sebastian. I had about a 2 year obsession with it. Drifting it at nite with live bait. We would go over in afternoon and put 50-60 pin/pig fish in the live well and do the loop on the outgoing. Set up about 50 yards west, drift through the pilings and to the end of the jetty or the wall, whichever came first. Turn around and do it again. On a busy nite it was crazy and with an north east or east wind was high pucker factor. The wall was where the outgoing tide hit the incoming waves and it was often higher than the boat. Not the place for engine failure or inattention. It was not uncommon to hook something there was just no stopping if you could not follow past the wall.

I worked on a crab boat out of Westport WA for a few months back in 87. No issues whatsoever until we crossed the big sand bar heading out one morning and the weather turned bad and water got rough. Couldn’t stop puking. Only happened once in my life but it was miserable and I will never forget that feeling. Spent a full season on the Bearing Sea on a trawler right after that and never had an issue.

I've never had an issue, but if someone gets sick around me (see, smell, or hear it) I start to get pretty nauseous - never to the point of puking, but my mouth will start watering and an occasional gag.

A friend of a friend was on a boat with us out of Venice, LA and when we reached the lump that poor fella was chumming the water, he never missed a beat and never left the rod. I bet he drank 2-gallons of bottled water to stay hydrated everyday we went out. He warned us ahead of time that he was going to get sick and no amount of Dramamine or patches would prevent it - and he was right.

I've never been seasick myself but a buddy told me on the way down to Destin that he got sick every time he went out. It was a pretty rough day as we saw 5 Waterspouts and were in rough seas all day. The coast guard was on the VHF saying not or attempt Destin pass if in less than a 40' boat. Capt. was belted in and standing on deck was tough, even after we had our sea legs. We were on a 42'er and when we finally went through the pass headed back in, it was scary and I don't scare easy. My buddy was a trooper though, he chummed the fish a couple times with his breakfast and then kept right on fishing. Capt. and mate both earned their money that day.

My problem was not eating. If I went out on a full stomach I was fine if I didn’t I got sick. I could be sucking down bls on a full belly and be fine. But if i went out at daylight starving I get sick every time.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

6-8 at 3 seconds sucks!!!! We Marlin fished off the coast of St Martin in 10-12s at like 13 second intervals. It wasn’t bad at all. And Destin pass can really pucker you up on an outgoing tide and a south wind. They stack up pretty good.

Went out of OB a few years back. Raining like hell and windy. I caught 2 and was done, the 5ft swells did me in. Sick the whole trip until we got back within 5 miles and the storm was gone. It was like glass the last hr of the ride in.. buddy of mine was puking and catching them. Ill never go back out after that trip.

Everyone gets seasick, it just takes more for some/less for others. I’ve worked on weather buoys from Alaska to the Caribbean, and the sickest I’ve ever been is in the GOM.

We were out bottomfishing and dad was queasy all day but never puked. Finally got in and went to a burger joint as we were all hungry. Dad got across the parking lot and was about to walk thru the door and he let loose all over the sidewalk right in front of the entry door! Man puke everywhere. I looked over and people eating inside were looking out and gagging. Some lady comes walking up behind us and sees all the puke and I told her "don't get the chicken sandwich" haha!

Man these stories bring back a lot of memories.. some not so fond.

A guy I know invited me to fish with him and some guys he worked with out of PCB years ago. One of the guys was whiskey drunk at 2AM when we got on the boat. Weather was terrible, blowing rain and windy. Don't remember what the seas were running.

Captain got pissed at the drunk guy and things went downhill from there. Then the drunk guy went below deck and started spewing. Had sense enough to grab a little cooler and barf in it. Just so happened that the captains lunch was in it!

Once it got daylight and we could truly see how rough it was the captain pulled the pin and hauled us back to the dock.

I've never been as glad to see land as I was on that trip.
