Was heading in from getting our snapper on Saturday and the starboard engine stopped turning the prop. Confirmed my thoughts after checking the drain plug today. Unit has some water in it as well. Notice the dent which is protruding outward. The joys of boat ownership. My boat has set point feature which holds it on the spot using the engines. It is constantly shifting which I believe what has trashed the lower unit. I replaced the port side two years ago. I may need to look into getting a bow mounted trolling motor to reduce hours and wear/tear.

Lower units are a PITA. I wouldn’t trade my spot lock trolling motor for the world when I’m saltwater fishing.

What size boat do you have?

Probably 10 thousand before it is all said and done. The last one was $6500 two years ago.

Buy a used one, and have your boat mechanic go through it before installing it.

You'll spend a fraction of that amount.

Have you tried Google?

If SEI makes one for your motor, that's what I'd go with. I had to put a lower on a Yamaha I use to have. I'm pretty sure Klay recommended the SEI. It's a Chinese lower unit, but I tried one anyway. Broke it in like the manual said and never had one minutes problem with it. This was 4-5 years ago. It was $850 and a rebuilt Yamaha was over $2K

22’ center console, but I’ve been on 30’+ with them and they worked great.

I put an SEI lower on mine several years ago. Once broken in properly its been flawless. Neighbor is an outboard mechanic and he says he sees very little trouble with them as long as the breakin is followed. Just be glad you had another big to run home on, when I blew mine I trolled back 12 miles on a 9.9, took a while.

I went thru OMC ones with regularity until I finally got a magnum one rebuilt. I never had a problem with it, although it probably cost me 1 MPH on the top end.
