Every where I go seems to be incredibly short staffed. We are needing to hire a couple of people asap but I don't even know where to begin looking. I stopped by hardees in alabaster the other day and there was one person working there.the CVS in calera was the same way. Used to be a week wouldn't go by that someone wasn't asking to come to work now nothing. I just don't get it. It's frustrating as all hell

We will burn that bridge when we get there

Young generation does not want to work - very soft - lot of industry about to shut down. I know a freaking paper machine going down monthly caise they can’t get freaking workers to pick up paper shipments - its that way w lot of industry - most don’t know it but America is hanging on by a thread - America was built on hard work - now we just full of a hole lot of stupid and sorry

Way past wake up time and needing a hole lot of prayer

Hunt the wind - leave it better than you found it - love your neighbor as you love your self
We need prayer for our country now more than ever

I deal with it every day.whats worse once you hire these young kids they have zero dexterity and you spend months trying to train them wasting company money then they quit on you.its horrible
I work in a company of roughly 60 people and there are 4-5 highly skilled knowledge employees carrying everyone else on their back.its a mess out there
Thinking of being self employed more and more everyday

Absolutely spot on. It's unbelievably bad - I just can't tolerate laziness.

I've got one young guy working with me now and he's great but you've got to hold his hand and constantly check up on him. You wouldn't think it would he that hard to find someone to stand behind a cash register for $14-15 an hour

You're in direct competition with the government. Life on the government tit is better than it's ever been.

I think we’re at a crossroads of management. The older guys who had 20-30 years of experience supervising people are retiring and dying. The people replacing them are green and don’t expect the same amount of production their predecessors did.

That’s my simple explanation.

Try hire someone work in logging business. I work for company with 4 logging crews. My crew only only one run with full workforce. Rest of crews are short one to two men. Everyone retired an nobody to replace them . We have only one person under 45 years old an i trained him but he being pulled at all side by other folks wanting him work for them. Young folks nowadays think they can start at top with top pay. With no skills. An they don t want do any hard work. Lots of restaurants in shoals area are only drive thru . Nobody to work inside . On indeed most jobs posted 2 years ago started at 8 to $10 an hr . Now there are many at $15 an up just to start an still nobody wants to work. Logging pays 3 times that . An heaven forbid u try hire someone to drive log truck. Company got all new truck.s. Pays really good with good benefits.. no younger folks apply. Don t know where we headed but it’s not up . 11 million open jobs in this country.

When people start going hungry they will get back to work. Till then, not happening.

I believe another factor is all of the years the education system pushed college, now they push STEM. There is a whole generation of people that think working with their hands is low class.

Once they get to the hungry part, they may as well be living in moscow.

Work is a terrible word. Hunting club members are the same way. Mention WORK day and everybody has an excuse or bigger plans for the weekend.

We had two guys show up to interview for entry level labor jobs and they said if we couldn’t pay $24-28/hr, they weren’t interested.

You wouldn’t believe the people our mill hires now,no experience what so ever, start them out at $17-$18/hr with the potential to top out around $35-$40+/hr and they may work a few weeks to a few months and leave.don’t want to work shift or weekends, they’ll leave to go back to a job making way less just because they don’t want to mess up their schedule, around here if you want a job making good money then it’s most likely a blue collar job that requires long hours, nights and weekends, this young generation has no clue what it’s like to have to work for $10-12/hr and struggle to get a good job,it took me 15 years of trying to get hired on where I work and now they’ll hire anyone that applies because nobody wants to work anymore so they have to take what they can get

If you’re working where you were a couple months ago, you know the kids that are fired up and get it. Do like we do, hem the parents up and explain employee your employee discount program. Mine is 10% over cost and once they hear that their eyebrows lift up. We have up to twenty school age kids both male and female from 14 to twenty something and most spend several years with us, some have stayed on after high school and two that completed college and came back to help run the place. Got several that started at the age of 14 or 15 and are now guiding the new kids.
