My parents are down camping for a week and brought the boat with them.....First time they've ever fished Lake Martin.....Any general pointers on what to try this time of year??

You can just about hit any dock or Point with a shakey head for Spots.

^^^ This. Some areas will be better than others, just move a bit until you get on the fish. Watermelon or green pumpkin should produce. My dad and youngest son went yesterday on the lower end for a few hours and brought home 16 for relocation to the fish cooker.

All the above. Go real early and fish lights then get off the water by 10.

We did more sightseeing today than anything, but I did manage to snag 3 small ones on a green pumpkin baby brush hog....They were all on the same point.....They're supposed to be getting us some shaky head jigs for the next few days........I appreciate the tips.

One other question........Was it Lake Martin that has the guy with the big flower garden that you can walk through??

Seems there was a guy that tracked a deer into Lake Martin one time…

Anyone ever caught shellcracker on Martin on the full moon in May? I was thinking of going next week and trying to locate some. They should be bedding, but I have honestly never noticed any of the beds while bass or crappie fishing there. Anyone got any ideas of how deep they bed in that clear water? I'm thinking 10 0r 12' deep near the backs of coves, but it's just a guess. Locating shellcracker beds in a lake like Martin is a lot different than finding them in a pond, but I've heard that there are some big ones in the lake.

CNC, my uncle and I bass fished it yesterday morning and it was very tough. We fished 4 hrs and caught only 7. He is recovering from a broken arm and we weren't very serious about it, but I would have expected to do a lot better. I caught about 20 on a drop shot Monday, but they wouldn't hit it yesterday. The lake temp has gone from 72 to 77 in since Monday. Good luck the rest of your trip!

It had gone up a little more today to 78-80 in places......Talked to one guy who was catching them in deeper water.

We're actually planning to go back over in that same spot where we lost that buck and fish tomorrow,,,,,,I'm gonna keep my eye out around the banks to see if he finally washed up somewhere....You never know. I'll keep y'all posted.

My buddy used to have a place right on the water there but he never fished it cause of all the boat traffic and idiots. Nearly got run over by a jetski. He just moved to get the hell away from the idiots and wakeboats. He used to always do pretty good on Yates lake though. Better fishing and a lot quieter.

get on the water early. Find rock flats on main channel and throw swim bait or ratl trap. Spots are schooled up chasing bait right now. If you can find a school throw anything resembling bait fish and hang on. a lot of fish from this weekend were sitting in 8ft of water half way in pockets off the main river. I caught the absolute chit out them saturday.

If anyone fishes around the North end of the lake I need some serious help via a PM. I can't get the kids on nothing down there. Been years since I've done much fresh water fishing. I guess I'm spoiled grew up fishing the TN river we could find something biting..
