Would like to hear from other public land hunters what bothers them, in case I'm unknowingly doing something. I'll start things off with one that may piss some people off.

Don't cut and mark trails. I've had a few honey holes get ruined from this. If you can't navigate off trail, you shouldn't be out there.

I haven't experienced many bad things on public land in Tennessee but I hunt weekdays and leave the weekends alone.

If you see a hunter turn around or just keep moving. Don’t try to talk, set up near, or walk around aimlessly.

I've only hunted Tuskegee and have never had any problems but I never hunted the best looking spots. If there is a facebook group join it and you can get to know some of the people hunting around you. Some that hunt close to me even send me trail camera pics. I've only had one person walk in on me one morning and I flash the light and he turned around left. I hunted all day and killed a very nice buck right before dark. I posted I needed help dragging him out and everyone volunteered to help. A young man from Opelika came by when I got to the truck and he help 90% drag the deer out. I had one guy bring a tracking dog in one day but he did apologize on the facebook page before he came in and I had told him to go ahead and we became good friends.

The only thing I've seen that seems to be a problem is people shooting from the campsites and not going to the range. When they shoot from the campsites they are just shooting down through the woods where people are hunting.

I have had a camera stolen.

It was my own fault for bowhunting during a gun hunt at skyline. But I had a four wheeler ride around all day long up every road checking every foodplot

Hunted public land growing up till about 25 yrs old.
Have had much more problems hunting private land than on public.
So what few problems I had was people on rare occasion coming through woods making alot of noise trying to push deer on man drives and dealing with game wardens harassing us poor folks on public land .lol seriously though never see game wardens unless they are called any where near private land and we all know that's where all the corn piles been past 30 yrs.lol
Far as public land etiquette don't go where there's a vehicle parked that's your sign in board basically. The end you can't get away from sorry stupid people unfortunately that's my goal every day but they everywhere

Funny story I met my best friend still to this day hunting public about 20 yrs ago.
I was walking down main marked road back to the truck and there's a guy standing there in army fatigues with a AK and a camo job f150 hunting truck (he's exmilitary)and I walked up to him and started talking so he says dang I stand out here with a AK trying to keep folks out I've been parked here since 3:30 this morning but no one has the nerve to come talk to me but you since I've been back to truck from morning hunt except you all year.lol
He takes out a Israel 98k mauser if you know much about firearms they pretty damn rare been friends ever since

Don't climb a tree along a major access trail/road and expect folks to walk in, see you, and turn back.

I drove down to the forest on Saturday going to a place last year that had a few gobblers. Only with my new hip I didn't want to get in deep with them. I was going to a spot that I could hear good, planning only going to where it dropped into that hollow. If they gobbled I'd go after them, make my way out somehow. As I pulled into that road notice a truck just stopping not far off main road. Thinking if they are hunting there I will ask them for sure. Pulled up ask where they was going. Turns out where I was going. I said good luck turned around went somewhere else. They was parking there to keep folks out and walk in. Bad thing is they had a good walk in to the place. I didn't hear anything where I went so as I was checking a few places went by that spot and they was gone.

if i hadnt taken up hunting i might have became a juvenile delinquent or worst taken up GOLF

They do that a lot in Choccolocco. You’ll park where you’re supposed to and walk in and notice the truck tire and ATV tracks. It’s fun to hunt public. Just can’t be too picky. If it steps out and it’s legal, if you let it walk the next guy probably won’t.
