I’ve got a cheap Black Hunter that I’ve been shooting, wanting to start hunting with a longbow so today I ordered a custom bow, a Toelke Whistler. It’s a hybrid longbow, I’ve ordered it in 60” length and 45 lbs @ 28”, my draw length is between 29” and 29.25” per the bowyer (30” draw on a compound). I’m thinking about calling him and telling him to make it a 2 piece bow.

Anyone with any experience with these bows?

Thanks,
Lonster

I am not familiar with those bows but I looked em up and they are beautiful! I prefer one piece bows but the two piece does make it much easier for travel.

Toelke has been around a long time. I don’t have first hand experience with them, but have always heard good things about them.

I shot a long bow this year. No experience with that name. I actually like shooting a long bow more than a recurve.

I personally wouldn't get the two piece. I bought a Bear take down recurve in 1969 and still shoot ti. I have never once taken it down. LOL so much for the take down. I got it because it had a heavier handle than the Super K of basically same design w/o takedown.

I have a 60" hybrid longbow and really like it, I have hunted with it a good bit.

No experience with Toelke bows, but have always heard good things about them.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

BhamFred,
I called Dan and told him to make my bow a two-piece. My reasoning (and I have owned a Bear Hunter TD recurve since 1989-1990 and it never been taken apart) is that this longbow assembles at the grip with no tools involved. It will hang on my wall in one piece and only be taken apart when I’m traveling a long distance to hunt. I think that it will be convenient at times.

I shot a tolke whip one time..pretty good shooting bow. Im not a fan of traditional long bows but some of these hybrid reflex deflex bows are sho nuff shooters. Im a recurve man..actually just one..i bought a quinn stallion from amb and ill keep this bow forever..i finally figured out how to shoot it an me and it have got rather deadly. Good luck lonster..i dedicated some real time and effort and i have got really into the process of shooting and tuning trad bows..i have become extremely picky with arra flight…my next step is string building..its alot of fun

I have two from Dan. One a two piece 64" Whip 48# @28" and a one piece 54" Pika 48# @28". Those are all I shoot now. Dan and his son make fine bows and wonderful customer service! If you have a question he will be glad to talk on the phone with you about it and that will probably wander off into a discussion about hunting!
