I worked at the Great Southern truck shop for several years and talked to him frequently. Really good guy from what I could tell. He's Jimmy Ranes' son in law.

Jimmy Ranes got his hooks in ole Me Maw don't he. He got his campaign contributions back in the form of a Grant and now got his son-in-law on the CAB.
This is how Alabama works. Take note.
Is this guys a high fence hunter or does anyone know his situation? I assume he isn't hunting at the local WMA where the people need folks like him to make better decisions.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Dollars to donuts that he ain't a common man hunter like most of Alabama's hunters, that's for sure.
But this is nothing new for the CAB appointees. They've always been political payback appointments, "friends of ..." someone appointments and never a Joe Lunchbucket guy. Also, other than a couple of times, they've been white males. Nothing like the hypocracy of "hunting and fishing is for everyone regardless of gender, age and race!" and yet 99 percent of the time the CAB is composed of Whitey White Man just like the DCNR brass.

I assume he isn't hunting at the local WMA where the people need folks like him to make better decisions. I’d rather have someone in tune with the common man hunter myself. However, the fractional tiny percentage of AL land that is a “local WMA”, doesn’t, and shouldn’t factor into most wildlife/regulation decisions. We’ve got 5 county areas large with not a single true public land hunting option. They are non existent.

Well shocker..... the Montgomery swamp appointed someone from South of Birmingham. These people act like North Alabama doesnt even exist until it comes time for a press conference to brag about the jobs that this area brings in. No telling how many appointee's in this state come from Mobile alone. Appointees are made based on the state's congressional districts. Each district has two reps. They serve six-year terms, staggered, so there isn't a dozen GOP or a dozen Dem appointees all at one time. When one members term is about to expire the governor can re-appoint or chose a new one. They can be let go at any time during the governor's tenure, too, as the CAB appointees "serve at the pleasure of the governor."

Dunno. Not privy to the nominees. It would be good to know who any nominees were, though, to be honest.
Wouldn't you like to know who is nominated to supposedly represent the citizens -- the hunters and anglers, and state park visitors, and others involved with DCNR activities? Finding out who is nominated or ignored might be helpful instead of a governor doing things in the dark and it just being announced.
Also, in 25+ years there have been two black members and two women on the CAB that I can recall. That's hardly a fair representation of the state's citizens - all of whom are supposedly welcome to enjoy our waters, woods, parks and outdoors.
Savoy by all accounts sounds like a solid guy. Hopefully he will be. Having some more "common" folks on the board wouldn't be a bad thing, though.
