I have some birds that routinely roost at the edge of the land I hunt. Two gobblers always have hens and I can't seem to do anything with them. There is usually 1-2 more that do not seem to have hens and all these gobblers go their separate ways off the property pretty quick after fly down. Should I call to the gobblers still on the roost? Should I wait until they get on the ground?

I'd be the first thing he heard after his first gobble. sometimes if you put a thought in their head right off the bat they will ,make a plan to come to you and not change course. im not talkin heavy but I would start light and work my way to agressive if need be

I'd shoot him off the damn limb.

He'd back out and go fishing cause he might be the dominant gobbler.

Be waiting on him last 2-3 hours of the PM close to that roost with some small talk and scratching if the are there routinely...money!

Where have they gone all the times you’ve hunted them? Be where you know he’s been in past.

If he has been called to already this year I would never answer him. I would cut off any hen yelp and do everything I could to bring them to me. I love messing with an old boss hen and if she gets mad you'll have every gobbler within a mile gobbling. I don't do this much but I've had hens limb hop from 2-300 yards away before fly down just to get close to me.

If they go the same direction, off the limb, everytime, there is a reason for that. That’s what you have to figure out, or set up in the path of where they head. Your place might be best place to roost, but not best place to feed, or breed.
If the timber where you hunt is thick but they fly down to clear cuts, there has got to be a reason. Too much pressure? You have a high population of coyotes? Could just be headed towards water.
Damn birds will make you scratch a hole in your head & have you questioning your sanity. But there is something about it that still makes you feel good inside.

95% of the hunters will tell u to call on the limb - that don’t mean it the right thing to do always and sometimes if u call on limb or don’t it will not matter what u do

It is nice when they read the script and come to u when u float that beautiful call out there - but that don’t always happen

Nature tells that gobbler to wait and gobble and his hen will come to him when he gobbles and lot of times when u hammer him he will stay up there and strut and wait on u and longer he stays up there - more likely a hen will go to him. If his hens are close - it is a hard game - u need to be close - sometimes the hens will play the game but more times than not they take him away

Getting where he wants to go is good option or coming back to that area in afternoon and try to call is option - but U hav to be ready for silent approach lot of times

If u are calling and u can see the turkeys and u are in open area - they almost will never come because they expect to see a hen right there - I like to hav stuff around me to make them hunt me a little - hav lanes to shoot - Real open area and u call and it wide open no hen - they gone hang - atleast the turkeys in Marengo county will. Generally when I see them - not too much longer I gone be shooting them unless I in big field r clear cut

And this is not that popular among turkey hunters - but guys I know that hav killed hundreds of birds often don’t call on the limb - guy that killed 30 a year for 30 years don’t very often - guy I know in the industry that use to be on 50 to 70 kills a year don’t ever call on the limb - just saying

Go in a hour before they gobble to your property line and see if they are crossing over. Most turkeys won't travel east early in the morning but not all turkeys have the same rule book,

First off, they roost on my side of the creek sometimes and sometimes the other side. The creek is the landline. The henned up gobblers usually go upstreamish and the solitary gobbler goes the other way as I found out this morning. It is pretty thick and steep. I may try to put the sneak on the solitary one if they are roosted in my side tomorrow. I accidentally got super close to him this morning before he finally gobbled. I heard him fly down but he went the wrong way. Gobbling his head off at me while walking away.

Won’t travel East early in the mornings got me thinking?? Anyone else experienced this? I’ve never heard such

Mine don't travel east early in the morning now that I think about it

They do go east all the time where I'm at. If they didn't I would cut down all the trees on the west side of my property so they would have roost on the east side and always go west in the morning.

Here lately mine will go any direction that is opposite of me.
