I think it could have/should have been handled differently.

I haven't looked in to it to decide if it should have been handled differently but I can assure you the lack of State Mental Health has left two victims here. The man that was killed and the deputy that killed him.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Dealing with people with mental issues can be some of the most challenging calls a cop can face.

It’s always easier to second guess the outcome than it is to control the outcome.

I don't think there is enough information in the article or video to make a determination on what was right or wrong.

I believe that if I was the father, I would have attempted to assist the LEO in subduing my son to prevent the situation from escalating vs. recording my son getting shot, then share the video.

I agree 100%. Intreated or improperly treated mental health issue is one of the biggest problems in society today and it is rarely discussed.

It’s horrible that a person died and that a deputy pulled a trigger but why is it the State’s responsibility to provide mental health care?

It's always easier just to blame the cops.

The family? I mean this sense of entitlement from our government is not healthy and doesn’t produce strong independent men. The reality is that not everyone is going to get a fair shake and that sucks. The whole equity thing is a good sounding lie that progressives have made up to push an agenda. Even the church can help.

Not everyone has family that cares. Many with mental illness are not in a right relationship with family. A lot of people with mental illness aren’t rational, yet we expect them to make a rational decision. Mental illness is not a choice and is probably the most difficult illness to treat. I don’t believe entitlement factors into this health care equation. The church? Really! Next time you go to a church, count the families with a member who has a disability. That’s laughable

So church going people don’t understand what it’s like to have family members with disabilities? That’s laughable. You obviously have a bone to pick with the church. On the original subject, I’m empathetic to the point you’re making but I just disagree it’s the responsibility of the state. Healthcare and specifically mental healthcare isn’t a right guaranteed by the constitution.

Many with mental illness are ok (wether on medicine or not in a episode) right until they arent. Many you’d never know it until they have an episode. I have some tenants that are excellent but when they are off their meds it can be wild. Most of the time their families are no longer willing to help after I’ve called them 1/2 dozen time.

You’re wrong about me. No bone picking here. Just illuminating the facts. Prove me wrong.

Look guys, the cop had to kill him so that he wouldn't hurt himself.

If this country can send money to other countries, it seems like they could offer up some funds to help open more mental healthcare facilities.

And, NO ONE knows what they would do in the same situation until they are actually in it no matter how much you think you know what you would do.

I'm convinced in life that there are some topics that unfortunately there is no perfect answer.

You can't permanently lock up the "crazies" do frontal lobotomies and other terribleness.
You also can't allow the status quo to continue. It's broken.

Mental health is something so complex, misunderstood and stigmatized.

I just checked the deer bacon thread and it hasn't turned political or racist yet, how'd that one get by us?

Bam home run. My thoughts exactly.
