The one I'm in now - Florida. No state income tax, no sales tax on food or medicine, the Governor passed an edict that no business would be shut down or restricted without proveable science, no mask mandate and no city/county can enforce a mask edict or business restriction, outstanding infrastructure, not any higher cost of living when outside major urban areas in the northern or central part, can hunt/fish/shoot using outstanding public facilities, a zillion state parks that are clean/safe/properly maintained. Booze sales any time day or night, no stupid state involved booze cartel, gambling, lottery, mostly transparent use of state funds. I could go on forever. I love my mother's home state of Alabama but I just can't help them become unretarded. I love my father s home state of Texas and they may be a fall back at some time in the future - especially if they get sick of everyone else's crap and secede.

Alabama,TN or Missouri
Will be moving back to lower Alabama when the wife retires in a couple of years. She hates the winters here in MO.
It takes a long time to grow an old friend.

Several have said Texas-Have you ever lived there in summer. Hottest and most miserable heat I have ever experienced. I dont want no part of it.
Good Lord put me here in Alabama for a reason, and I have no desire to go against his reasoning.

Except for hunting purposes I don't like it when it gets cold anymore......I think I'll stay where I'm at......I would go farther south if I could but any farther and the deer hunting isn't as good......Plus I don't really care for high wind either

Florida keys cuz of the weather and fishing . I'd rather stay here, next is Florida, I can still get to Alabama and Georgia for hunting, but still have the beach and the inshore/offshore fishing.

you could choose any state to live in which one would it be and why.. All of us can choose which state we live in. Today. There’s no “if” to it. We have so much freedom, but forget that. I suggest Wyoming, where we lived before here. But the climate is harsh during most of the year, and most of the state is pretty isolated. One day, when I can afford it, we’ll like to live part the year in the SE & the other part in the West. Alabama is much easier physically to live. And very inexpensive relatively speaking.

I like how everyone talks about no state income tax or no tax on groceries. I would say that 99.9% of everyone on this board is a hard working blue-blooded American. Which means, you work and own your home, cars, etc...
The state may not be charging you state income tax, but rest assured they damn sure are getting their money elsewhere. Be it car tags, property tax, fuel.........somewhere these money grubbing bastards are making up for it. You're trading syphilis for gonorrhea, but they are getting theirs.

I've spent enough years in a lot of other places to know there ain't no perfect place. I'll just spend the rest of my days here.

I like Alabama. Hate living in Birmingham and that will never change can't stand this place. If I could live anywhere it would probably be an hour closer to the beach.
I have been to a lot of other places and a lot of other countries. Can't say I want to live in any of them. I have a whole different perspective now than when I was 25 and single. Back then I had a list mostly based on hot wimmens. Bazil was a list topper. Love Montana and Idaho but I can't take the cold weather up there I have been there for long enough periods of time to understand how bad it sucks when nothing thaws out for months on end.
I don't necessarily think that Texas is hotter than Alabama south of Birmingham Everyone says East TX is hot and that's certainly true it's miserable but they get a decent breeze on the Coast and by the time you get to Dallas you are starting to get into drier heat. I've fished Sam Rayburn many times in the middle of the summer. It's hot. But no worse than fishing in Eufaula.

Alaska. I’d live on the Kenai or Togiak. Fish all summer and hunt moose in the early fall. The closest thing left to true freedom on this planet. If I had 4 or 5 kids that looked inbred and a couple of them had jacked up teeth I’d move up there and make a TV show.

Wyoming, Montana, Idaho...
New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Western North Carolina...
Having said that... Northeast Alabama has, and continues to be, really good to us, so we'll probably live out the rest of our lives right here up on this mountain.
Beautiful mountains, rivers, lakes, plenty to do outdoors, wonderful people, inexpensive living and decent demographics.
I wouldn't mind being able to keep a catamaran down in the British Virgin Islands and run down there for a month or two out of the year.
