Tundra. I have Never seen a Toyota transmission shop. But I have seen many shops that specialize in GM/Chevrolet. That speaks volumes to me.

You've got to document stuff and it is somewhat of a pain, but I got a brand new replacement truck from Toyota. Toyota took a hard line to start with, but once I told them that they'd failed to fix it after three tries and having my brand new truck in the shop for a combined total 85 days, and that I was getting ready to lawyer up and officially file, they just rolled over belly up and called and asked me If I would drive over to the dealer and see if they had one on the lot that I wanted to swap for. On another note, it was hunting season and they had to provide me with a 4wd loaner while they had mine. You wanna talk about driving a truck like you stole it............

The dealership finally replaced the transmission after they realized I was going to be a loud PITA every single day until they made it right.

Wife’s buick enclace did it at 78,000, sold it - my 98 z71 has almost 500,000 and still rolling.

I’m glad that Florida lemon law worked out well for abolt300 but it didn’t do crap for me here in Alabama back when I bought a 2006 F-150 that turned out to be a lemon. I owned it for exactly one year, and in one year, it had been in the shop 11 times. Once for a whole month. I had a stuck valve replaced, the head replaced, (took them several times to figure out it was a stuck a valve), a/c went out, had an electrical short they never could find, transmission was slipping BAD, brakes had a really bad shimmy that made it hard to keep it in the lane when applying them, alternator went out, had to have a few wiring harnesses replaced. I’m sure there was more. Anyway, I tried the lemon law route and was told by a lawyer that by the time I would win, the truck would be paid for. I don’t know if he just didn’t want to fool with me or what. This was at Town & Country Ford in Bessemer. I offered to trade the truck back in and just wanted to give me the payoff. They offered me $19k on a truck I had paid $40K for. This was when the truck was just a few months old. Oh yeah, I had bought NUMEROUS vehicles there over the years too because at the time, my company required me to purchase a new one every 4 years. I even went to church with the owners and sat behind them every Sunday. Didn’t matter. I swear, I’d drive a go cart before I ever bought another vehicle from them again.

The factory warranty on vehicles has gone back to 30,000 or 50,000 or whatever it is doesn't matter.

We will re-enter the 1980's and everything on cars/trucks will begin to fall apart around 50,000 mile with drivetrain lucky to break 75-100,000 miles.

I promise you this is where we are headed.

I had a rebuilt replacement put into my 2000 Z71 at 215,000. Cost me $1800 and came with 3 years warranty. I’m at 278,000 now. I want a new truck but with all the stories I’ve read on here and other places(regarding Chevy and Ford) I may just limp this thing along another 20 years.

I agree. My personal truck is a 2010 F150. My company owned truck is a 2020 F150. I’ll take the 2010 over the new one any day of the week.

My wife had a Suburban that the tranny went out at like 60,000 and the warranty was 50,000. I called General Motors and finally got them to pay for half of a new GM tranny. It took about a week of back and forth but they finally gave in. Give 'em hell you have nothing to lose.

Not a one out there that you can't find some issue with. Toyota included. The Tundras had an issue with the trucks coming from the manufacturer with just enough transmission fluid to avoid a complete failure. If you ever had to replace the radiator (say from a wreck), the body shop better check the transmission fluid level because if they didn't then the transmission would burn up in a matter of weeks due to low fluid.

My 2001 has 170k. I think the ball joints are worn out. But zero transmission problems.

As far as I'm concerned, 1 body style back from the current one is still a "new" truck....and my 2013 FX4 has basically the same interior as a Platinum (whatever the "luxury" package is)...I'm not sure a feature exists on the new ones have that mine doesn't already have, so I've got no interest in "upgrading"....

My current 2018 GM truck will be my last GM truck until something changes.

I've got a 2014 F150 with the 5.0 and a 6 speed transmission. I went to the dealership planning to buy a 1 or 2 year old F150 but they all just felt like garbage compared to the simpler one I ended up buying. All these 8 speed and 10 speed transmissions trying to get better fuel mileage are the main problems. I think I'm going to buy a cheap gas saver car to drive back and forth so I can keep the miles low on my truck because I know the newer ones aren't near as good

worst thing you can do is not drive one.....drive it and maintain it and you'll be better off

No clue what we're supposed to do on buying new or newer used trucks?
GM and Ford both have major motor and transmission issues that they won't make good on.

Getting harder to find the older GMs 2003-2007 1500 that were fairly reliable. My son is still driving a 2001 and only major repair has been the rear end.
Tundra just didn't ride that good and gas mileage is horrible according to a friend that has a 2016.

I was looking for a new truck this past year and drove a couple different chevys and both the trannys shifted like crap, brand new. Drove the second one because I thought the first one just must have had something wrong with it but they both did it. Couldn't believe they expect somebody to shell out $40-$50k for something like that. The interior looked really cheap too. I had a new 92 GMC Sierra and drove it over 200,000 miles with almost zero problems...........how can they get worse at making trucks? You would think they would get better.
