I use a kme deluxe system. Took some time to get used to it but once accustomed to it,it'll make a blade scary sharp.

I keep a couple of mini Victorinox sharpening steel handy, cause i have no need to break out "stone" just to touch up a blade

I got a whetstone 400/1000 grit and It is great on kitchen knifes but I struggled getting my pocket knifes and hunting knife sharp like I like them for skinning and general use. I got this small work sharp sharpener and it’s great. It’s a 20 degree sharpener and it has guides which makes it super easy to be consistent with the edge. It has a course and fine side, plus a ceramic side and a leather strop side. It also has a ceramic piece for sharpening ceraded blades as well as hooks. I like the size too because I can put it in my hunting pack. I’ve been Extremely pleased with it So far. Even if you don’t get this one I think you may like a sharpener that has the guide with it, I know I do! It Really makes it easy to sharpen. Worksharp also has a whetstone holder that has interchangeable guides for sharpening on it so whether you’re sharpening kitchen knifes or hunting knifes you can put the best edge on them. These are great. Really well thought out.

I use a cheap one similar to this....does a decent job, not great but serviceable. Nothing wrong with cheap and serviceable --- have a couple of these for touch up I have two or three of these. They have replaced all the other gadget sharpeners I had. I use them for everything from kitchen knife to Machete. No complaints. It seems to make an edge quicker than ceramic rod types. image hosting no sign up. I don't have the same brand, but I like these type, I'm can def. use this on a machete. One thing about the mach., you don't want to get it too sharp, a machete is a tool knife, so take it for what it's worth. You can get parts of a mach. very sharp to cut, but you don't want to do that to the whole blade.

For a machete I just sharpen it on a 30-inch belt sander, same as I do my lawnmower blades and axes. One pass on 80-grit usually does it for a machete, a few passes are needed for a dull lawnmower blade. I even use the belt sander on the Chinese Old Timers. On some blades there's not a good reason to waste time trying to get a fine edge.
I carry one of those round honing stones in the vehicle if a machete or axe needs touching up while away from home.
