We’re having problems with locals trespassing by riding sxs all over our lease right at last light. This past weekend one of the idiots rode up and shined his lights into a shooting house where a member’s son was hunting. So we called the GW and one came by our camp Sunday morning to talk to us about it. Here’s what he told us.

1. He can’t enforce trespassing, that’s the Sheriffs job.
2. He can’t write tickets for non game & fish violations because it would take federal money away from them. Said if the feds see they’re spending time writing tix for other things, they’ll cut their funding.
3. Only the “land owner” can file charges for trespassing, which our land owner will in a heart beat.

Is there a law in AL about “harassing hunters”? That’s what these locals are doing. They’re mad because we have the land between them and the river, cutting off their access.

They are painted purple. Don’t think the locals give a damn what color paint are on the trees, posts, etc. We’re trying to figure out if the GW is feeding us a plate of BS!

They are trespassing not poaching. That’s a sheriff office issue

I thought the GW was an LEO and had the ability to enforce ANY AND ALL LAWS.

I would consider that hunter harassment and that is the game wardens responsibility, imo that game warden needs to step up and do his job.

Shining headlights into shooting houses with members kids in them? I sure would hate for an accidental discharge into their vicinity. Also, if you have them patterned. Take some 2x4’s and make discrete spike strips across the roads that they are trespassing on.

You need to fight fire with fire in local leo and game wardens don’t help.

Yes a GW has the authority to enforce any and all "state" laws anywhere in Alabama. A GW is endued with the same power as a Sheriff. Now he may be referring to some departmental policy that he's having to operate under idk. Either way a Deputy can take a report and if you know who it was, then the landowner can obtain a copy of said report and file charges using whomever saw them as a witness.

Have you tried cell cameras on roads or where they're entering property? Get them on camera and prosecute them. Hmmm.... maybe a 150 grain to an SXS engine.

Sounds like your GW is blowing you off. I call mine every time I get trespassed and he pays them a visit too. I’m thankful to have one who gives a crap about his job. He looks for reasons not to say no versus the other way around.

That GW needs reported to Montgomery, sounds like a lazy ass. Losing federal $ for writing nongame violations sounds like pure BS. I know ours will write a trespassing and littering ticket in a heartbeat.

This is one of many reasons I encourage landowners and leaseholders to get to know your local wardens. Don’t let the 1st time they meet you be when there’s a problem to solve.
