That's what we work. I'm supposed to be in maintenance (4-10s, Mon-Thurs, Tues-Fri). I moved to maintenance in 2014 but have been back in operations more than I have in manintenance since then (operators leaving, vacation coverage, etc). Company has cut OT as a "money savings" plan, but I haven't seen any of the cuts. 400+ hours OT this year and no end in sight.

If it’s hunting season I’d wanna be off during the middle of the week. I was working one job where I was off during the week and the rest of the guys in the club were weekend warriors. I killed a good many deer the next day when they all were out of the woods and sitting at work

Look, 12’s are what they are, you make the most out of a work day, but that’s all you do is work and sleep on those days. 8’s are lovely and wonderful, but you’ll never make much $ and if you drive a good distance it’s a killer too. It depends on how far you drive for those 8’s and if you need a lot of OT. Working 6 days sucks for 48 hours, working 6 days for 72 hours adds up financially. I’ve done both 5-6 dif times over the last 25 years. If you have kids that play sports, take the 8’s, you won’t miss a game, but if you’re young and don’t have kids 12 hours are where it’s at. Me personally, I don’t mind working weekends when all the bosses are home either.

I work 4 strait 12's and then have 4 strait days off..this schedule continues on that same path continuously. I love it. 4 12's is a breeze here at the data center and I get a ton of time off.

I wouldn't like working days that long if I didn't have an equal amount of off time along with it and actually having to work hard during those 12 hours. I work about 90 less days a year on this schedule and make about 30k more a year. It was a no brainer for me.

IMO we don't have near enough info to give you a recommendation based off of your situation.

I’ve never been told when to be at work nor how long to be there. Don’t plan on ever being in that position.

If your new job is hunting and fishing and drinking beer, then would be a yes. If we are talking work, it better be something you love doing. Or they make you an offer that makes you so happy you can’t refuse

Some folks idea of temporary is different. Just saying.

Doesn’t sound too bad to me, if there was financial incentive. A 40hr work week is like a vacation around my house.

I work 7 12s in a row. You get used to it, but you get to bed early during your work hitch. It would break my heart if I had to go back to a 5 day a week schedule

I used to work 6 days at 11 hrs per day, 66 hrs a week. Money was good, nothing else was......

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I loved 12’s when I was on shift, not a lot of difference in being there 8 hours vs 12 once you get there and the extra day off was more than worth it. One things for sure, 4 days of 12 hour shifts nobody will have to rock you to sleep!

I work 8 on 6 off at UA. 8 straight 10 hour days, then 6 days off. I like my shift.

Everything comes with a trade off. Several years ago I read or heard someone saying in life there are 5 thing that generally take up a person's time: family, faith, finances (work), fitness (exercise), and fun (hobbies, etc..). Each person gets to pick 2 to dedicate their time (3 at the most since some can fall in 2 categories). Choose wisely.

I work a 3-4 shift schedule. Start with 4 nights, then off 3 days, then work 3 days, off 1 day, then work 3 nights, then off 3 days, then work 4 days, and I’m off for 7 days. In a 28 day period I’m off 14 and work 14 days. The only thing I don’t like is every week your are swapping from working days then go to nights. And I work a good bit of overtime I should end up with 900 hours of it this year and then have a 70+ day turnaround in February. I have a 2 year old and would like to spend more time with him but I also have a house and truck paid for with no debt.
