I don't know anything about that unit but I'm hunting unit 7 thats next to that unit the week after Christmas. Give us some updates after you hunt on how it went with the park still being open and if you bumped in to any hikers.

I just hunted zone 8 this week. The park is wide open, hikers and mountain bikers are everywhere. I was spotted twice in my tree stand from people on trails. The guy I was with ran into a girl walking her Yorkie Wednesday morning. Definitely some different kind of hunting, can non stop hear people talking when walking or biking, echos through the bottoms.

That's definitely gonna be different. Did you see any deer in the middle of all that?

Yes but you need to get as deep in the zone as you can away from trails. Farther in you get, the more you see. They seem to feed at night to get away from all the people. You can catch them moving from bedding to day spots and in the evening when they start moving to the next spot. Zone 8 is hard hunting.

I hunted 7 one day! We went to very top of the mountain and dropped off the hill! Saw 8 total that day! Feeding no hikers but I believe there was one bike trail but I stayed up away from it

Figured it’s was prob bogus. There are so many big deer in the neighborhoods around Bham it’s almost ridiculous. I personally had one in my back yard that I called Zeus that scored well over 160. Missed him at 5 steps last year trying to spine shoot him. Didn’t need him in my neighbors pool. He was a no sho after 1/21 last season. Assumed somebody else found him too.

That deer was killed in Jefferson County. It is not an Oak Mountain deer.

Theres some sho nuff good ones around there. I had game cameras set up behind the "mission house" at the church I worked at and got some real nice deer on camera almost every night. Moved a couple miles down the road and had some realllll big bucks in my backyard by the Cahaba.
