I would suggest going to Phoenix and then take the Apache Trail to Show Low and then up through the Petrified Forest up to Williams or Sedona and then on the the Grand Canyon. There is an old motel in Williams where you can catch a train to the GC but then you are on someone else's schedule. Unless you plan to hike to the bottom or ride a helicopter, the GC has some museum type places but other than that it is a big impressive hole in the ground. A lot of other stuff to do in N. AZ though. You already know of Sedona, but there is Meteor Crater, The Petrified Forest, Painted Desert and great scenery everywhere. Since it will be May you can even go to Oak Creek Canyon and go down Slide Rock. You can go to Winslow and stand on a corner at look for a girl in a flatbed Ford. Go see the old Indian pueblos at Canyon de Chelly if that interests you.
A lot of cool history if you do the Apache Trail to Show Low. You'll go through the Superstition Mountains of The Lost Dutchman Gold mine fame and even the way Show Low got it's name is cool. One of the West's old gunfighters, Bat Masterson maybe, was playing a poker game called Show Low when he was shot and killed. Sedona has great scenery and shops but it has to lead America in kooks per acre. South of Sedona is an old mining town called Jerome that is built on the side of a mountain. It is a pretty nice day trip. The route via the Apache Trail will also take you through the San Carlos Apache Reservation and The Salt River Canyon. that is a really fun drive
I grew up out there and I could direct you to even more places but I've given you a full itinerary as it is. If you are driving there are some nice places to see in New Mexico on I-40 or in South AZ on I-10.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I would fly and stay in Vegas. You can go to the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam. We rented a convertible for less than $100 and drove to both. Flights are cheap plus there will be something to do at night. Fremont St (old Vegas) is fun to go to and see the old casinos.

I've flown over it a few times on my way to a real vacation in the mountains. It's pretty much a big ditch. And although I've been forced to change planes in Vegas, I never left the airport and couldn't get the hell away from there fast enough.
My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

Stay in Vegas. Take a helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon. You can fly into the canyon and land at the bottom and have lunch. We did that last year. It was awesome. You can also rent a car and drive out there and to the Hoover dam, which is damn impressive. That bridge they built is impressive.

sign up for the smooth water rafting if they are still doing that. Was a good all day trip. Starts at the Glen Canyon Dam. Make sure to wear to take long pants and shirts as the sun was brutal. Most folks got really sun burn in their shorts and tee shirts.

Kid lives there now. bad idea.

If you golf, Sedona has an excellent golf course. Due to the number of rattlesnakes, there is no penalty drop if you ball goes out of bounds. The Boss and I enjoyed the Pink Jeep tour. We are planning on the jeep tour
