For several years I got really into Indian artifacts. This was when I did a lot of hunting right below lake eufaula. Half the land I hunted were row crops and a lot of native Americans used the area. Found a few nice paleo points, as well. Since I moved to the “other” south AL, my artifact hunting has transitioned to civil war era. Pretty incredible the amount of lead and iron still in the ground. l have thoroughly enjoyed both and one day I’m sure I’ll find myself coming back to the rocks.

There really are some very very nice points in our area, they just don't get found much any more. But they are there.Someone found a fine bannerstone with four tally marks on it this summer in someone elses pothole spoil pile in a place that has been pounded for years..Anyone think this one is fresh knapped?Looks mighty clean.

If it was, the fella who flew in from Texas on his private jet and handed one of my best friends a STOOPID amount of money must have been an idiot.Out Back would not have been fooled.

Let's not derail the thread with bickering.

Anybody else have any that they have found? I'm sure a lot of members are like me and love seeing this stuff!

Kennedy, if you have access to a hard bottom creek/river in se bama or a nice high knoll over an old water source I will be glad to show you.All this thinking about artifacts has brought back memories of good times past. This case is all from the main site on my property which I put in pasture twenty years ago to preserve what is left.If I am blessed with a retirement I will be constructing a mechanical sifter and buying a small backhoe and taking about 20 acres to the hardpan.

[Linked Image]

These are mostly SE Bama creek/river finds, along with a couple of dug points from Georgia.

[Linked Image]

This is case from central Florida which is where most of my hunting was done.

And one more central Florida case.

All of these were personally found by me. Unfortunately when it comes to finding artifacts I am just about the unluckiest guy I have ever met and given the time and effort I spent looking my collection is piss poor. The guys I regularly dug with found some flat out spectacular stuff but it never happened for me.But it still could, thats why I am still out looking.

BradB , what's the story behind the string of beads in the bottom case?

Got too dig a Spanish contact site in St Cloud Fl three times.Very cool digging. Had to sift through window screen until you got everything through screen but a fine black sand and organic matter. Dump it in a bucket and repeat.Take the bucket home and run a hose in it to wash out as much organic matter as possible.Basically you would be left with fine black sand and beads. Had to dump sand onto a white cutting board, spread it out and start looking.I got two strings one I gave too a friend.

Love finding them. Hard to come by around here. I'm thinking about doing some research and finding out where the Ataugi indians or however you spell it set up camp. Supposably that's what autauga county is named after?

Oh man Ridge, those are some fine artifacts.I have not a clue about NW Bama typology but down here would consider them pre-forms.Really really nice pre-forms.Your ancient dudes had much larger material to knapp on than most of the places I have hunted.A cache I assume.I got home and delved deeper into the closet and found a few more.Did someone mention brokes. The first year I dug I kept my brokes, after that I gave them to a buddy who does classroom presentations and gives them away.

There are some that deserve a case. There is much dissapointment contained under that glass.Especially the Paleo bases.

[Linked Image]

Nother Central Florida case.

[Linked Image]

And the last case I was working on when I pretty much had to quit due to developing severe osteo arthritis. The two water points in center I found on my last water trip.

Well thats it for me.I know there are some folks with some good ones on here.Post them up.This has been a great trip down memory lane for me.

I have some nice ones I found as a kid. I still find them pretty regular but I don't hunt them like I used to. I know 2 guys that have always been die hards at it with some sure enuff impressive stuff.

Ridge you are not the only one.I have never bought or sold one but have friends who very much regret selling them. But sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do.A few years ago a buddy found a 6" stamped out translucent red coral Newnan that was just awesome and his truck immediately took a dump.He had to sell it but it got him a pretty decent used truck. Its easier these days cause prices are not what they were at one point.
