That's like asking how many rocket scientists live in Huntsville.

I know one. USMC, and he is the real deal. Y’all are correct about them not talking about it - my buddy doesn’t either. It is amazing what he can do with a rifle, as well as a slug gun. It’s really not fair to the deer! grin

I’ve met a couple honest to goodness serious Snipers during their military stints, and not a single one of them ever spoke the word sniper...but I was informed of these guys’ reputation from folks that served with them. Funny how that works.

Here’s what I have learned...folks that trained to consistently hit targets at very long ranges with one cold barrel shot, are a different breed than the paper punchers that get the barreled “up and running” then shoot a target 10 times.

Both groups of folks can teach you a crapload about elevation and windage...with elevation being more about the math and reading windage being a straight up art...that gets better with practice. Lots and lots and lots of practice.

When did the AF ever fly F-14’s? Red flag.

I'll be honest, I don't know what they fly, but the 30-30 is what tickled me.

Can’t say I’ve ever spoken to a real sniper. My great grandad was one heck of a marksman back in WWI so I am told. The family has his old service medals still stashed away. He ended up going into law enforcement after the war. Retired as a firearms instructor with the PA State Troopers. I’ve taken his old .38 service pistol to the range a few times. I can hit a coke can at 25 yards with it a couple of times out of the 6 rounds it will hold. I’ve heard from many folks (not family members) that he could shoot a cigarette in half at that distance with one shot. If I see him on the other side I’ll have to get him to show me how to shoot.

Oh yeah, I forgot about him.

And a few others.

I knew a guy said he hit a man in the side of the head so hard his eyeball popped out. I told the guy I was going home, I had been enjoying listening to his lies so far but now he was telling lies I just couldnt believe. No snipers though. Although that same guy was probably a sniper.

Ask them next time where they went to sniper school. That will stump 99% of them.

Not me brother, I do like a 30-30 but the event nor Aircraft never happened. I spent plenty of time in Columbia doing some very ugly things. The AirForce didn’t even develop the Counter Sniper program until I think 2003 ?

Only know one, who I work closely with. His name was on a plaque when we visited FT Rucker for work. I knew he flew in the Army, had no idea he was a USMC sniper before that.
