My son is in the prosses to deploy again. He is the top shot in his company for the last coupleyears. He is also a coach now. he has been offered sniper school, but he would halve to add two years to his enlistment.

Sniper school with a tab and being a sniper attached to a unit are two very different things. Just like having a ranger tab from ranger school and being a ranger in the 75th ranger regiment are two very different things.

My Father in law was on a competition rifle team in the army, but he never remotely claimed to be a Sniper. I guess he would have been a sharpshooter.

One, his dad is a friend of mine and is quiet about it. Kid spent three years shooting nothing but light bulbs at night. That was the only thing he was allowed to shoot.

My brother is getting married today. His soon to be FIL is a former sniper with 120+ kills. His platoon was the one that act of valor the movie was based on.

Just because you qualified expert during basic training and continued to do so during your military career doesn’t make you a sniper. I qualified on the grenade assault course as expert thirty years ago but that doesn’t make me an expert on explosives. But I did get assigned a M203 which is a cool weapon.

Met two. An older fellow who made his own simple syrup to kill flies on the four corners of his range targets. He also had black&white pictures of himself and Carlos Hathcock and said "Everything you hear bout Hathcock is mostly true." Second one was a skinny 150lb kid at gunschool.

Only hits count.

Used to work with a guy who was a sniper in the Air Force. His weapon of choice was a lever action 30-30.🥴 He also took 3 other guys to Columbia and took back a F14 fighter from a drug lord who stole it from the AF. It was quite amazing listening to his stories. 🤣🤣
