I have an area on our place that was once a loading area when the place was cut a few years ago. It is bare with a lot of rocks. I don't know if I can even break up the ground it is so hard. What can I plant that will grow.

Annual ryegrass will come up pretty good, don’t know for sure without seeing it. We plant ryegrass for cattle grazing, but the deer like it too. Do a lot better if you could run a disk over it though. Probably other things too, but that’s the first that comes to mind.

you got a middle buster or 1-2 row bottom plot to run through it? old log loading ramps usually have good organic matter from the decaying limbs, bark and tree tops they left from logging. I know at least ours did in our lease. about 4-5 years after we decided to run a pow through it and it looked like coffee grounds the dirt was so black and rich

Get a soil test. Some folks would say rip it up and some would say dont. It probably has a terrible hard pan, so I personally would break it up. Rye will grow.

It be's that way sometimes.

If you can clean it off, clover will come up if you just throw it our right before a rain. Rain will put it in the ground enough to come up. One of the above comments about using a bottom plow to tear it up is a good idea if you want to plant something else.
Plain rye grass may come up, but if you want a true green field that has something good for healthy deer rye grass is out.

Cover it over with hay and add some nitrogen......help nature get a foothold.....You could try throwing out some millet at the same time and cover it with the hay....
