I know nothing about this young man, but long blades and auto openers are probably not the best choice for most teens. I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. I still have every knife my dad and pawpaw gave me. I toted the case I got when I was 17 today. Not every kid looses everything.

Cactus_buck 12 point C Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 4,894 Alabama	My first knife was a 3 blade buck knife similar to a case. BUT I would suggest an Opinel #7 with a carbon blade. They’re super easy to sharpen, they stay sharp, they’re relatively inexpensive (highly likely it will get lost) and they have a locking collar which is safer than a case that doesn’t prevent it from folding on you. I was going to say this. Don't spend too much on one now. Wait until he's a little older. Even really great 16yo boys go downright stupid for a few years while that frontal lobe is developing. They can't keep up with crap except chasing ladies.

Depending on what version(handle material) you pick the price can range From $295 to somewhere around $63. It's a dependable knife that you an open easily. CRKT makes knives in all price ranges.
