I'm a die hard life long Better Boy tomato man. They're a nice balanced tomato. Acid but not overpowering with some sweetness. I've tried other varieties over the years but none have topped my old stand by. This year one of the guys at the shop converted a shelf in the parts room to a "grow" shelf. He started a bunch of different tomato varieties. He and my brother both planted some Brandywine tomatoes last year. I didn't. I decided to plant some this year, with my Better Boys. I got my first Brandywine today. That's the best tomato I've ever eaten. No doubt about it.

Brandywine tomatoes are very good. Now plant a Cherokee Purple next year. Strange looking but the best tasting IMHO.

I've had some. They taste okay but the core takes up half the tomato or at least on the ones my parents planted.

I've had some firsts this summer with tomatoes. I usually only get better boys myself from the co-op, but I was given several different plants by a friend who started them from seed. One is a German Queen Beefsteak (my favorite), Better Boy, and then I've got 2 plants that are putting off an orange tomato about the size of a Better Boy and the other putting off a yellow and green striped fruit that is fantastic for salads (small and shaped like an acorn). Anyone know which 2 the orange and yellow ones are? Orange sounds like a jubilee and the small ones may be yellow pear tomatoes.

Good info. I have question. I like what I’ve had but just wondering. Do tomatoes just quit when done? They get lots of water and such so why do they just quit now. My peppers produce until the first frost normally.
Don't blame me for your bad decision-

I figured so. Ive grown a Lot through the past 8-10 years. I notice many plants keep producing as long as you pick em and some just fade away. Wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing out on anything. I may stagger mine next year. Man I love some fresh maters!!

I believe it has to do with the fruit wont set after a certain temp is reached. I've never tried it, but supposedly if you can keep the plant healthy they will start back making when it cools down. Again, that's hear say as a buddy says he doers that.
