Who has done it and is it really any good? I have been curious about trying to make some just as a fun project.

I got a few gallons going right now. I did the 1 container frozen juice mix(grape, apple, not citrus), 4 cups sugar, I heat a little water and mix that all together. Pour in gallon carboy and full with water to a little below neck. As long as water is cool like below 85 degrees, put 1/2 pack of wine yeast or can use bread yeast but wine preferred, top with air lock. Let it go until stops fermenting. Rack into another carboy. Let go for a couple weeks rack again. Then a couple weeks or months or however, rack again, strain some, bottle it whatever you want to do lots of options.

My father was a master wine maker. I never was interested in making wine until he asked me not to bulldoze his vineyards down and destroy his grapes shortly before he passed away. I try now to make wine with the grapes he planted, but my wine is not up to par with what he did. How I wish I would have helped him and learned all the secrets he took to the grave. I'm mostly hit or miss. Some is great and could compete with anyone in the business and some isn't worth pouring out. This year looks like we are having a bumper crop and I actually have two 5 gallon carboys started tonight with white grapes. I just bottled a little over 7 gallons of white wine last week. I always freeze the grapes before beginning because Daddy always said it would break the juices down. I wish I could make just one batch with him now to see what he really did.

It's not hard and to begin, make red grape wine. It's easier and most ladies love the sweet taste the Reds produce. If you want more info, shoot me a pm and we will talk.

Hope this helps,
B

I've got 11 gallons right now. I've made at least 250 bottles in the past. Homemade wine can be as good as any wine. But it's a science. I get the pH right, measure my sugar content using specific gravity, and keep everything clean. The sugar turns to alcohol. If it finishes sweet the the fermetation wasn't complete for some reason. When you stop fermentation you wait a couple days and add sugar to your personal taste.

The best Ive made is pear wine, second was a blueberry mead. I like mine dry.
