Our calves will sell about 9 am this morning. Should be Harmon and Shelton farms. I’m the manager of the Harmon farms which we sell 2 loads with them and the Shelton farms throws in with us to make a 3rd load. I got us set up with Clint Berry with Superior a few years ago, he’s a great guy and the relationship has worked well. We are fortunate enough to have a set of scales at the quarry that less than a mile away from where we load at the farm so that always helps. If y’all have watched the sales this week, there has been some fine calves sold this week all across the country. Prices are fair considering the chit show world we in right now. If any of y’all are interested in selling with Superior let me know and I’ll get you Clint’s number. Talk is free with him, and he’s a good cattle guy, he can bring a lot of knowledge to the table that will help your farm, no matter what you have. Just passing it along.

I've watched those sales a few times. All I can think about while watching them is steak, burgers, and roasts. GLWS.

Was this on RFD? I tuned in a little after 9 and it was ag news on. I thought it was going to be one of those live auction shows that lasts a couple hours. I love going to the sale barn and just watch. They serve a dang good burger too! Glad your happy!

DW - for us dumb city folk, what does the 670w, 720w mean? Are these considered feeder cattle? I glance at commodity prices every now and then and recently added just "Live Cattle" to my favorites, and that is around $1 a lb if I'm reading it right. Which is the best pricing on the livestock commodity to look at just to get a general sense of say, beef prices?

Thats the average weight of the calves for that load, yes these all sold for feeder calves, they’ll end up in Nebraska, Kansas or somewhere along them lines I’m sure.

Is the price next to it for per hundred weight? I have not done much with cattle, that is my daughter's forte. She is heading to Miss St. next month to start her education in Ag and Communication. She really wants to work on a cattle farm. She has been to nationals with 4h for Quiz Bowl and Skill-a-thon, but she is still trying to get the hang of giving reasons when judging. Sorry to bring the bragging in here, but we are really proud of her.

Put about 290lb of beef in the freezer today. Gonna need to search recipes so my family does not get sick of beef.

Congrats on your daughters accomplishments. Lots of females in the farming/cattle world. My fiancé will graduate AU this December with a AG Econ degree. Just my thoughts on the deal, as far as “farming for a living” tell her to just remember what’s she learned in 4H/FFA etc, but also remember to be open to new stuff. When a person has to make a “check/living” in farming they have to figure it out and bare down. You HAVE to make things work. Good luck to her, she’s going to a great Ag school for learning. Be proud and congrats to you as well.
