We feed February until hard horned probably 4000# every 2 weeks. We feed a mix of MaxRax and Co-op buck blend. Also have bio rocks on the ground near all protein sites.

We feed from end of turkey season till bow season starts. Nothing fancy just protein pellets from the coop in Greenville. Four 250 lb feeders. Right know they aren't hitting them heavy with all the green stuff

There's a way to stop that theft and ensure you have some for the cornbread, y'know.

Is there a way to test and see if your deer are actually having any nutrient deficiencies and which ones that may be? If I we're gonna spend the money to feed then that's definitely something I'd wantwant to know, I know you can do a tissue sample of the the plant /forage.....not sure if that would help or not

I really like roasted soybeans. We feed them mixed with record rack 50/50 seems to work well for us but we only feed about 5 tons a year during late winter until August. We switch to circle T range pellets in the fall to get pics over cause its cheaper and never mess with corn unless we have to due to wet conditions or something. We rely heavily on planting and land management so its just a small part of what we do when they really need it. I do believe you would get a lot more by planting all your fields less then 5 acres with a perennial white clover or something and having a big bean field or 2 if its possible along with supplemental feeding. Of all the things that we do on our place I think that supplemental feeding is probably in last place when you think about 1 acre of beans produces up to 6 tons and clover produces up to 2 and multiple that time 100 and all the prescribe burning we do. When none of my crap is an option I think if your gonna feed them you might as well feed them the highest protein level you can and the roasted soybeans are like 38 percent and they love them. The are a more expensive and harder to get but I truly believe they are worth the trouble.

To me it seems no different than adding a bunch of ljme, fertilizer and other amendments to your food plots without ever having done a soil test if you just feed a bunch of stuff to them without knowing what specific things may be limiting them and when. We can guess at it but it's probably about like guessing at food plots and what each of them need. It'll be different for different areas I'm sure

I have a friend who's feeding Buck Muscle year round in a couple of trough feeders. A lot of guys in west Georgia are believers but I'm not sure it has exactly what you are looking for.

I also have friends who are feeding some type of goat pellets from Casey's feed. They say they've shown the ingredients to a couple biologist and they were told it was a good feed for deer as well. It's only $8 or $9 per 50 lbs.

I’m looking for a feed that checks all the boxes on the ingredients/analysis as the feed pictured below that can be bought somewhere within a reasonable drive of Andalusia. This feed is made is south Texas and the freight to get it to Alabama makes it unrealistic. The deer pictures ive seen from various folks that are feeding it are pretty impressive. I just put 2 ton of it in feeders on my Oklahoma lease and they were tearing it up first night.

Dax you know I trust your opinion on growing big deer in the state of Alabama. Our problem is available acreage to plant beans and soil health. We are working on correcting the soil health but that is going to take time to build up the OM. We have/are attempting to establish clover/chicory plots but our soil is so bad it’s nearly impossible to keep it healthy. The dozer swept most of our top soil off a lot of our food plots. We also lack the acreage for beans to withstand any browse pressure. We do have a burn program and a lot of our native browse is very beneficial.

Look on some of the Texas hunting forums about Double Down feed. They (DD) make some pretty outlandish claims on their product. I think the deer DO eat the snot out of it though, increasing cost to you to keep feeders filled.

also look at DD videos of hunting, they do kill some monsters, not sue how much is because of the feed or because they let the deer go to 7-8 years old before shooting. All in south Texas.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

We are planning to let our deer reach 5+ if possible. I have also reached out to some average guys like myself that have been feeding the DD. The cost between my current choices and DD is insignificant, so I figured I’d give it a try.

is the cost per bag close??? I understood the cost of feeding was higher because of the increased consumption rates

If there is anyone on this form that knows how to grow “Trophy Deer” it is Mike,Aka “Squeaky”! We could all probably learn a lot by just listening to him speak. Deer knowledge aside, won’t find a better guy around.
