The tomatoes in my Father in Laws garden are having a hard time this year. They start turning pink and then a brown area-spot appears and spreads out until the tomatoe is rotten. He tries to pick them as soon as they start to turn, but the spot still rots out making the tomatoe useless. Any suggestions.

I had that issues several years ago from transplants that came from Bonnie's Plant Farm. The water that you boil eggs in has a great source of calcium also. Did he plant transplants or did he grow the plants from seeds?

If you use pelletized chicken shucks it will help tremendously

Is the spot on the bottom of the tomato or on the side?
If it's the bottom of the tomato it's BER as said but your description sounds more to me like Tomato Anthracnose. Looks like a round, flat, water blister and turns black. It's caused by a fungus. Start spraying a fungicide ASAP but it may be too late. Mancozeb is a good one.
