All it takes is money and you can do just about anything you have dreamed about. The three limitations on life. Time, energy and money.

Another down side of a well is no electricity no water. I've had to add a large generator to the list of things to keep up.

12000 watt portable, duel fuel, propane or gas. I can run the well, All my 110 outlets and have a couple window Units in the shed. My house is insulated really well and they will cool it. The well and 5 ton central is a little more than it can handle. I would love to have a pto powered genrator also. Good thing about the portable is I can loan it to my family and friends if they need it. Plus it only cost $1100.

Coworker of mine just got a quote for $10,000 I think it was. The ability to run it off propane is nice. 100lbs tall tanks would run it for a while.

My advice is don't use a well. Get on county water, whatever the cost. Wells are great for irrigation but they suck for dependable water supply. Always a problem, constantly, with the pump, the plumbing, the primer, the water quality, always something I'm not against that. The waterline would need to come about 3/4ish of a mile down the dirt road one direction or about 1 mile down the road the other direction, it's at the end of the paved road. Though I could explore this with the neighbors buying the land right next door to me. Any idea on the cost to run it that far? If at all possible thats the route I would go and split the cost if all the neighbors agree. I think even if it was $2k more than the well youd be $ ahead in the long run. As far as the splitting it with the neighbors ... where would the meters be? The closer the meter to your property the better since you are responsible for anything past the meter. I knew a guy who wanted neighbors to split having a main put in down their road. None out of 6 agreed to chipping in. 2 flat out said they would just wait till he paid for the main and then tap into it. He in turn had a meter installed 1 mile away and ran his own 1" pvc line to his house.

I proposed the idea of some joint projects to save costs and logistics and they seemed interested. I'll need to explore both routes. Well and county water.

I got a quote for a generac 22kW air cooled backup home generator for $4500. Running off a 1000lb tank. Excluding the transfer switch. I had that installed when we built our house.

I've had way too much experience with wells. More than I care to recall. This is just one man's opinion, but I wouldn't even consider the cost of a well unless I needed crop irrigation. If county water is available, go that route, whatever the cost. My oldest brother, Dad and I had this conversation just a few weeks ago. It's mostly before my time but they both said the day city water was available was the day their daily lives became a little happier due to not worrying about a well pump and the shhhtuff that can go wrong. Sand in the system was the biggest problem around here. Once again, Outback is right. I wish he wasn't but he is.

I went through this 26 years ago, and was able to extend the county water line and get 3 neighbors to help pay for it. One guy said he wasn't interested and then hooked to the line as soon as it was finished. Your next conversation needs to be with the guy in charge at the local water authority. You need to find out if they will even let you extend the line if you pay for it.
It sounds like that is a public county road and I doubt they will let you run your own line down it. If that's the case, then your only way to get county water is to extend the line, and that won't be cheap. Best of luck with it!
