Its just the water flow control system that has been there for 20+ years. I have been there. Its really nothing other than looking odd.

It’s an old stream gage and and that’s a weir. The correlated pipe was once a stilling well. Stilling wells create a calm, less turbulent environment for water level measurement. Inside of there would’ve been a float and a counter weight on a wheel. Water goes up, float goes up, turns the wheel, which is set to datum and logging those values; usually at 15 minute intervals. You can measure discharge fairly easily when you know the dimensions of the dam structure and the weir. To calculate the discharge, just multiply the area of the cross section by water flow velocity. You would get your velocity portion of your equation based on the water coming out of the notched weir. I’m sending you a PM And this, boys and girls, is a practical application of calculus. 👍

sometimes, if you ask aldeer you get the simple and the full answer. Its a water control system and you get the full answer described above.
