Done right, for a hunting AND a bench AR, they’re sensible. Fixed charging handles get ragged on with many tacticool folks, but most stuff has always had fixed, right side charging handles, and nobody griped about them hanging up on stuff. Plus, you can ditch the forward assist, quietly chamber rounds more easily, single load at the bench without coming off the stock, etc. there’s ways to do it with a regular, rear, ambi, or non-reciprocating, but none are as easy and intuitive as the old reciprocating, side charger semi....unless you’re wrong handed. LOL
I’m just so conditioned to regular AR charging, the mental switch isn’t even a conscious thought. I still might build another side charger in 300 HAMR.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Sure...and there’s a lot to be said for the non-reciprocating, left side chargers that many others make....for certain uses, so long as the handle folds. Righties get chewed up by left side charging handles when slung, and vice versa.

My brother and one of my buddies have side chargers and I really like them. If I owned and of those evil weapons of war, they would be side chargers.

My 300 BO pistol is a side charger. I got a Caldwell brass catcher for it due to the fact that it throws the BO brass into a 5th dimension. Was worried about the side charger interfering with the brass catcher but it functions perfectly with it on. I only use the catcher sighting in, etc when recovering the brass is a priority.
"Cull" is just another four letter word...

I had given up on ever enjoying the AR platform until I discovered BCA side charging uppers.
I'll never own another top charger other than the first AR I owned that my wife bought me before she passed. It will stay in the family forever.
