We are putting our dachshund down today at 4 and it has been eating at me for awhile. I have not been able to eat today. We got Brody when I was 10 years old and he was born on 9/1/2004. He has lived a wonderful long life, but has gone downhill over the last year. We took him in last week for blood work and he is fighting liver and kidney disease. He also can't see or hear and sleeps all the time. We have known this is coming for awhile, but the decision has been about impossible for My dad and I to make. I feel thankful for the almost 16 years with him and I know it is the right thing to do, but I have had a hard time coping with the appt that we have for today. I would love some thoughts and prayers this afternoon for my family and I. I pray he feels no pain during the procedure and I pray that my dad will be alright as well. Brody was a great dog and I would like to share some pics with yall. I have never had to do this before and it really is hard.

Prayers for y’all. I had to put my last Dachshund down a few years ago and it still bothers me.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Prayers. Sometimes it doesn't make sense how hard it is to put down a family pet. Just think back on all the good times and know you're doing the best thing for him.

Just be there and hold him is the best thing you can do for a dog that served you so well for so long. It's coming at my house in the not too distant future and I'm sure not looking forward to it.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Hate to hear that.

Sorry, it's a hard thing to do. I put my "Daughters dog" down a couple of weeks ago, He will leave here knowing he was part of something. I took Emma to the vet, they took her in to start IV and then brought her back out to me in the truck because of all the hysteria. I still look for her to be behind me when I go out.

Toughest thing I have had to do in along time...I held mine last year when the medicine went in...and it is fast thankfully. Just thinking about it now still makes me well up and sad. As others have mentioned remember the good times, and rest assured you are doing the right thing for your pet. Great pics...doxies are great pets. Prayers for your family...

Man I really hate to hear that. We’ve got a little mixed breed mutt thats 11 years old and is getting lame, quick. I know the day is coming when I’m gonna face the same thing. I’m pretty rough around the edges but it’s gonna tear me down when it happens.

I’m sorry to hear this. Prayers for you and family. That’s never easy when it’s your best friend that gives you unconditional love for so long. Been through it and never gets easy.

It's never easy but you're doing the right thing. We recently had to put one down we'd had for about 16 yrs. He was just about deaf and had been blind for a couple of years, but managed to get around very well. He finally stopped eating and we knew it was time, he never suffered at all.
Give it a little time and you will still have all of the good memories and none of the bad. We still talk about him most every day and we know we gave him the best life we could. He was a rescue and ran this house for many years. Bless you and your pup

Thank you everyone for the thoughts and prayers. They were felt this afternoon. Brody passed peacefully around 4:15 and it was very hard but I know he’s pain free now. I seriously do not wish that pain on anyone. I truly felt nauseous the entire time and just hated all of it, but I am glad we were all there to be with him when it happened. He was a great dog and we all will miss him.

Hang in there bud, it will get better once you start remembering only the good times again as someone mentioned above. Just stay tough and know you did the best thing.
