Anything variant of the Springfield XD line... they can’t be beat in my humble opinion. Polymer, striker-fired, plus grip safety. And extremely accurate. Also very affordable. They have a special going on too believe, or at least the did on Monday

Single stack, single action hammer fired - sig p938 used. Take the recoil spring guide apart and put blue locktite on the threads. Very important. Double stack da/sa hammer fired - Bersa TPRC (this would be a cz rami or sig if your budget was higher) Double stack striker fired - tie between Ruger sr9c and smith and wesson m&p9c flavor of choice (this would be sig p365 if your budget were higher) Single stack striker fired - tie between ruger ec9s or smith and wesson m&p shield 2.0 (have heard good things about the mossberg offering - mc1sc - have not handled or fired one)

For those talking about the M&P triggers.........that was a huge complaint (really the only one) on the first gen m&p's. However, after reading a lot about them, the trigger seems to be quite a bit improved in the M&P2.0's. If you like the ergonomics of them, I'd recommend searching on youtube or, better yet, find one at a gun shop to shoot.

Trigger on a striker fired weapon will always be less than ideal. The best of the best are a pale comparison to a really decent trigger.

I picked up my p365 SAS yesterday and I like it so far, I'll go out Sunday and put a few hundred rounds through it. The M&P EZ is nice but it may not be as compact as you want, Austin and my wife liked it because the slide is very easy to work, you can do it with two fingers. I will probably go back and get that for them they were under $500 as well, hell the .380 is under $400.

Sig P365 sits right at the top of your range, and is a fine handgun.
I looked at that yesterday and really liked it. It was comfortable in the pocket and it has the 10+1 option. I wouldn't mind getting one for myself and the M&P shield .380 for my wife. I have a few of the 12 & 15 rounders for mine 🤗 Now that I have one I will be picking up a few of them as well. The 10 round extended is good but a little more room for they fingers and a few more rounds in the mag are better.

Original triggers are gritty, but smooth out the more you shoot/dry fire. Bodyguard 380 is a “get off me” gun. The long trigger pull is for pocket/purse carry where there is more possibility to be accidentally engaged when unholstering.

A Glock 43x with Shield Arms 15rd mags is the perfect compact for me and falls within your budget

I like my Shield but I could be very happy with a LC9s If I didn't get delayed at the show in Mobile I'd have a LC9S
"Cull" is just another four letter word...
