Most of the counties in the South are named after 1812 figures, only a handful are named after Civil War figures.

Why don't we just go ahead and erase American history completely? I mean if we haven't learned the basic lesson of history, then let's get on with the repeat. The sooner the better.

Not a county (civil war figure) but Gee's Bend has been renamed for a long time. You know I've always wondered, just how many Pettways in Wilcox county know, where/who their last named came from

Not a county (civil war figure) but Gee's Bend has been renamed for a long time. You know I've always wondered, just how many Pettways in Wilcox county know, where/who their last named came from They wanted to rename it king alabama after mlk but dont know what became of that . Boykin is another name for there I believe he was a slave owner plus staunch segregationist area is really dying out younger generation moving to big cities. Yes I'm quite sure there was a pettway plantation according to records.

And yes several blacks took on the last name pettway, because the white man was so nice to them, and he eventually set them free...
